Tom Gores chaperones Andre Drummond on apparent date with Jennette McCurdy

TMZ:

The celebrity relationship born on Twitter is still going strong for "iCarly" star Jennette McCurdy and Detroit Pistons star Andre Drummond … ’cause last night the two went out for a romantic dinner in L.A. and TMZ has the footage.

Tuesday night … it appeared their relationship was still going strong — the two were spotted holding  hands on their way out of Madeo in West Hollywood.

Watching that video, I suddenly shouted, “Hey, that’s Tom Gores!”

Drummond’s relationship with McCurdy started strangely, and now it took just another strange twist. Who has their boss chaperone their date? Who chaperones the date of a employee?

I am going to go ahead and say, hey, that’s cute. I love the hug at the end, our owner truly loves his franchise cornerstone in the making. I think it is cute they went on a chaperoned date? And, hey, can the season start already??!!

This guy with the camera trying to engage these two in some cheesy twitter conversation when they obviously don’t want to talk to him is just bad.  Put the camera down dude and find something useful in the world to do that actually contributes to society…

A boss who knows the pitfalls of the newly wealthy; and who cares that his #1 investment doesn’t ruin himself.
    Kudos, Mr. Gores.

this just gets better and better…

at this rate: Drummond for MIP, Defensive player of the year, and MVP, the Pistons win a championship in June and Mr. and Mrs. Andre & Jennette Drummond are married in July.

Then all the abandoned houses in Detroit get purchased, rebuilt, and inhabited by families, crime goes down and factories go up all over the inner city… then put organic farms in all the suburbs just for good measure.

Just to throw this out there. Drummond was born and raised in New York/New England. McCurdy has lived in California her whole life. The only link Drummond has to California is owner Tom Gores – who also happens to rub shoulders with celebs. There is a good chance that it was Gores who actually set up a meeting between the two, and it wouldn’t be unreasonable to think Drummond could be staying with Gores or one of his properties while out there. They could have simply been leaving wherever Gores had set Andre up, it didn’t really look like he was following them out.

This. Gores lives in LA. Dre was out in LA… so they probably just got in touch and went out to dinner together.  Perhaps maybe Dre wanted to use some of Gores’ connections to get them into a hot restaurant or something. I think its cool though to see Gores involved with players on a personal level. He’s probably like a father figure to Drummond

Now that Odom is a crack addict and his relationship with Khloe has gone south, it looks like TMZ is on the hunt for their next NBA-Celeb couple to solicit for money lol

Looks a lot more like Gores said, “Hey, I’ll take you kids out to dinner if you want.” And Dre and J, being nice young folks, accepted his invitation. Not a chaperoned date.

Sorry Dan, but I think the use of the word “chaperoned” was a bit premature.

Maybe Tom knew McCurdy or had some other connection to her through their various representatives. Maybe (as has been mentioned earlier) Dre was in LA and Tom helped set them up, or offered to take them to dinner.

It’s definitely cool to see an owner taking a personal interest in his team.

chaperone: “a person (as a matron) who for propriety accompanies one or more young unmarried women in public or in mixed company”

I don’t know how you can watch that video and think that doesn’t apply.

I’m guessing the sticking point is assuming the reason for his presence was “for propriety”.

I don’t know about chaperone, but he was definitely playing third wheel. Drummond worked HARD for that date … months worth of tweeting led up to this. I like to think that Gores was just board, found out Drummond was in LA, threw on the first shirt missing the top four buttons he could find and invited himself along on their date.

Someone needs to write a fanfiction short story on this date. The world needs it.

Gores said “text me” as Drummond was entering his town car. I found that funny for some reason.

Hopefully this chick doesn’t end up breaking the big fellas heart. The last thing we need is Andre ending up a big blubbering mess next season. Hopefully he’s utilizing his NBA hallpass if you catch my drift :-)

    OFF TOPIC:

The CBSSports podcast on basketball has been doing season reviews all summer and they finally got to the Pistons.  It’s well worth checking out and they seemed pretty excited about the Pistons even if they weren’t sure how it would all work out.   One of them even said he was going to have to plan his vacation around when the Pistons were playing in Minnesota because he didn’t want to miss seeing the Pistons.   Nice to hear national guys talking this way.

Lets get this season started so Drummond can get back to focusing.  Yes, I know he’s just a kid, and kids have crushes.  October 1st can’t get here soon enough.
