Chauncey Billups talking with Pistons about front-office job

Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press:

Pistons have talked with Billups about front office job when he is done playing.

Chauncey Billups has made no secret about his desire to one day become a general manager, and I’d be shocked if working with Joe Dumars weren’t a significant part of Billups’ decision to sign with Detroit. I hope Billups’ management career begins with the Pistons after he retires.

Ideally, that process begins with a couple successful seasons as a player first, but Billups is clearly smart enough to join a front office, and his playing career is winding down. It’s time to think about the future, and not too long from now, the Pistons would do well to hire Billups as a scout or assistant general manager or something of the like.

never get too excited about players who desire to be GM’s…

But I do believe Billups has a confidence and certain level of cool that other NBA players respect and like…

So i agree if we becomes a decent team starting now, and he become part of the solution…why not?

“The Mayor” might be the most connected player in basketball in terms of being on good terms with the most players and NBA people.   This bodes well for his ability to be an asset in a front office position.

I love the idea of Chauncey joining the Pistons’ front office once he’s through playing. Billups is an incredibly smart player, a proven floor general, and has seen firsthand how a perennial winner operates. He’s one of the most universally respected people in pro basketball. It’s never easy to make the player-GM transition, but Chauncey Billups has all the tools to become a front office success. He’ll be a perfect fit for Detroit going forward.

I’d give him Dumars’ job today. This was a good bridge to rebuild.

Fire Chauncey now….. Chauncey must go….how could he draft that guy…that guy picked at 58 was so much better than the 53rd pic, he should have done his homework. Anyone in San Antonio’s front office would have done better. No more euros ever, man those euros on that team oars great, how come we didn’t draft or sign them. blah blah blah. I’m just getting ready for all the nonsense you fans will start throwing out after a year or two of gm Chauncey.
