Andre Drummond willing to give up No. 1 for Chauncey Billups

Andre Drummond:

If we do take CB ill give my #1 up. #Mr.BigShot

Awesome gesture from Drummond, but I’m not sure it will be necessary.

Chauncey Billups mostly wore No. 4 before coming to the Pistons, but that’s obviously off the table in Detroit for the same reason Billups wanted that number in the first place: Joe Dumars wore it. In Denver, Billups initially wore No. 7 before switching back to No. 1. Then he donned, No. 4 with the Knicks and No. 1 with the Clippers. Back in the day, he even wore No. 3 with the Raptors.

So, it seems Billups can make due with changing his uniform number.

But if Billups wants No. 1 again, I’m glad he can get it.

Take it back Chauncey and make Khris Middleton stop wearing 32 as well. And Andre this time around choose a number that fits a big man like 55.

Fat chance Rip’s 32 will ever see respect as long as Gore and Dumars are still involved.  He caused too many problems…after getting paid all that money.

There are different numbers for big men and guards?

Also, numbers get reused all the time. It’s not disrespectful, it makes sense. A player has to be really special to make it worth retiring his jersey.

Being a 3 time all-star on a team that was very good but not great for half a decade and the 4th best player on a championship team doesn’t qualify as really special.

The jersey swap actually means a lot. Two overachieving seasons and that #1 is hanging from the rafters.

Yeah I don’t quite understand this: “You don’t need your number, Chauncey” attitude. Give the man his damn number if he wants it. Not that it’s so bad to have a new number for your new era, but agreeing to come back is a big deal.

Why would he need it? He was gone and someone else got it. If Drummond is nice enough to let him have it, so be it. But Drummond has first dibs now.

i want Drummond to make 99 his new number.   AD99.   He Got 99 problems but dunking ain’t on.   I know you can flip it as Drummond has 99 problems and all of the are free throws.  But I still think AD99 is a tight Idea

I HATE FRANK – Billups played the 2 alongside Chris Paul, so not sure why you’re confused we re-signed Bynum. Bynum is clearly the better player and will be the backup PG. Chauncey is in the twilight of his career and will be more player-coach than player.
