Pistons’ draft outlook uncertain on season’s final day

Essentials

  • Teams: at Detroit Pistons (27-52)
  • Date: April 17, 2013
  • Time: 8 p.m.
  • Television: Fox Sports Detroit

Draft implications

The Pistons could finish with as high as a two-way tie for the No. 6 seed and as low as a two-way tie for the No. 8 seed in the lottery, depending on tonight’s results. As a reminder, ties for draft order are broken by random draw.

Detroit also could acquire the Clippers’ second round pick, which is top-55 protected but would not go to the Pistons in a future season.

There a lot of games that will affect both picks, but let’s make it simple.

Rooting guide

Keep in mind, this is strictly which teams to root for to improve the Pistons’ draft pick:

  • Nets (vs. Pistons)
  • Wizards (at Bulls)
  • Kings (vs. Clippers)*
  • Timberwolves (at Spurs)
  • Clippers (at Kings)*
  • Jazz (at Grizzlies)
  • Suns (at Nuggets)

*If the Pistons win, root for the Clippers without hesitation. Otherwise, you’ll have to decide whether slotting in the lottery or having an additions second-round pick is more important.

Is anyone else hoping we don’t sign any big free agents this summer and wait for the next one? The 2014 draft is looking pretty solid and if we were to get a top 5 pick in that draft and combine that with any of the big free agents coming out next summer.. we could be a very solid solid basketball team for a while. Whereas if we go for the win now plan, we will most likely end up either stuck in the late lottery or the 8th seed/get eliminated quickly.

What do you mean by “win now”?

Our 2 best players are probably going to be here for 10 yrs at least.

The management has been making moves for a win now/ half a**ing rebuilding instead of going full rebuild mode. Also, Monroe has expressed some displeasure and frustration with the Pistons. Who knows what can happen..

Charlotte has our first round pick next season.  Maybe they’ll employ your idea.

Charlotte has our pick if it isn’t in the top 8. He’s saying tank the entire season to keep that pick.

I’ll point out that I don’t hate Charlie but geez I hate his game. He is so frustrating to watch and I think me not actually disliking him makes it even harder if that makes any sense. If I hated him it would be a lot easier for me.

The problem with charlie v is that we dont know what charlie is going to show, the charlie with bad defense and bad shooting or the charlie v with bad defense and good shooting… hes got skill but hes too inconsistent like most of the players on this team

Tied for 6th now. If Sacramento gets the win they move into a 3 way tie for 5th. Not quite as bad as I feared it could have gotten.
