Over the first half of the season, I was saying that I wouldn't mind bringing Max back next year for quite a bit less money, but only if they used him just off the bench. With his game falling apart more and more as the season goes on, I wouldn't want him back even at the league minimun.

We have no room for Max unless we dump Charlie V and that's not likely to happen. With that said, it's been real Maxiel...

I hope the Pistons let Maxiell go. This season he has been awful for the most part, probably his worst ever, and his weaknesses have been exposed needlessly (in a logical world Drummond would have been taking his spot in the lineup for the last months) I could only see him on the team for another season as a 10th or 11th man, with 5-10 minutes a game at maximum. Please Joe D, go and get a real PF!

another example of dumars not understanding his team, the players and how to maximize their value.
anyone who has watched max play during his nba career knew that he was not going to sustain the excellent play he's shown at the year's beginning. that is, if he was going to be playing 25-30 minutes as a starter every night. he's never done that in his career.
he's been a solid bench guy who could come in and have a real impact, depending on the type of game and the matchups.
once he saw what he had in drummond, he should have quickly transitioned to bringing max off the bench, keeping his minutes around 20 per night, and he should have traded him the first chance he received a solid offer for say...a late first or a young player or something of value.
hard to believe that some team would not have wanted max for their title run, the way he was playing at the beginning of the year.
instead, dumars held on to max, played him way too much, and now, he'll probably end up letting him go or signing him to a new 2-3 year contract.
definitely not the way for a supposedly rebuilding team to handle a veteran asset who is standing in the way of younger guys getting PT.
but then, it is an old story in detroit.
