The real story in the post-game comments was Brandon Knight saying that if he was 6 10, none of that lob ish would be happening on his watch. In other words, Jordan and Griffin would be having a dunk-a-thon if our bigs had the same heart as our starting shooting guard. I wholeheartedly agree!

Look, who gives a ish about his body language or "energy"? I agree with your general sentiment, but the point is simply that at 6 11, Monroe won't jump into the fray and defend lobs the way B Knight will. Championship big men are tough (borderline nasty) in the paint on offense and defense. Monroe can complain all he wants, but the guy wouldn't squash a grape in a fruit fight. And that, my friends, is a long-term Piston problem so long as Moose is on the team.

Dwight Howard and Javale Mcgee share the same skill set as well it is just that Dwight has become what we hope Drummond will and Mcgee plateaued. "Sure he can become Dwight Howard" thats a big sure. That is the hope and if he does that he can certainly be a franchise player. Dwight isn't scoring from anywhere outside the paint, Andre is 19 and has time to develop a hook like Howard has and improve his FT shooting. Just about everything written about Drummond says that he is exactly the rare talent at the center position every GM wants and it would be hard for anyone to pass up on drafting him given how he has played. That is at least the start of what a franchise player is. Lots of teams have players that lead in scoring and they give them a max contract and the team goes no where. Monta Ellis could lead our team in scoring, but would you want him instead of Drummond? is he a centerpiece to build around as an undersized SG that can lead us in scoring? no. Drummond has potential to dominate on D, on the boards, and with work on offense. He may not be getting assists but all of those qualities open up the floor for our other players as well, thats a solid center piece.

Ben Wallace was the team's identity. Maybe that's not the same thing as a franchise player, but Chauncey & Ben were equally important to the team's success. Chauncey carried the offense, Ben carried the defense.

I really don't see how Drummond is the franchise player when his entire offensive game consists of dunks. He's a terrific weak side shot blocker and freakish athlete. But aside from that, what else is there? Sure he can become Dwight Howard but he can also become Javele McGee. I keep comparing Drummond to McGee because their skill sets are similar IMO.

I think your franchise player should be your leading scorer or assist man. Drummond will be neither. When we lost Ben Wallace, the defense suffered but we won more regular season games and finished in the exact same spot in the playoffs - game 6 of the ECF. When we lost Chauncey, we failed to win 40 games and have yet to accomplish it to date. Chauncey was our franchise player despite what many belie fed back then. And Monroe is our franchise player now.

The Pistons started out 5-6 without Prince (4-4 with Calderon). I would guess that it's more of a morale thing where they realized that they have absolutely no chance at the playoffs anymore and people stopped caring so much.

But regardless of cause, hopefully we can agree it's a good thing. This recent 1-8 stretch has put Detroit in prime position to get a good draft pick.

@ G: I see your point. I wasn't saying the yung dude can't play, cause we all know he can score. you hit the nail on the head, he watch the ball & lose his man, which breaks down the defense & can lead to an easy basket. This is his 3rd season, so hold him accountable. & I agree with the other comment, Drummond is our franchise player, not Monroe. I blame Frank too cause his rotations is god awful, but I am rooting for his wife to have a speedy recovery. The right draft pick & trade, The Pistons will be okay but this is a crucial off season.

We need to find some middle ground. Monroe is a pretty skilled offensive big man with a few limitations surrounding his athleticism, and he's nearly clueless on D. He's the best player the Pistons have, and he'd be the best big on 7 or 8 other teams in the East alone.

Defensively, he's at sea. He watches the ball & loses his man ALL THE TIME. He's slow footed and often switches late. His PnR defense leaves much to be desired. He does a decent job of getting position though, as long as the guy he's defending isn't an astounding athlete. And he's a really good rebounder.

Hibbert really got overpaid with that max extension, but if that's the going price. With Monroe you either pay it or someone else will & you lose your best player.

His TOs this season have been disappointing. But after two years of doing so very well in that department, I'm willing to wait to see whether that trend continues next year.
