I agree on the talent factor and that is an interesting point about his former players' opinions of him. Personally, there are many things I do admire about Frank and his coaching philosophies. I can also see why his former players would have such positive things to say about him. I know it's been debated ad nauseam here, but, from what I've seen of his work between here and New Jersey, there's just too much about his decision making (personel management and the like) and his teams' performance that I can't get past.

Pistons fans obviously are mostly down on Frank, but it's interesting ... his former players, including Robinson, are all highly respectful of him and think he's a good coach. Frank hasn't impressed me in Detroit, but he's far from the problem. The Pistons need more talent, first and foremost.

The headband is what got me with him in Portland. I was a sucker for guys with unique style, and Cliff's headband and the fact that he was a big who shot threes definitely made him stand out on those really good Portland teams.

It's a mix. Generally, pieces that require interviews/reporting pay a bit, stuff that I write that is more opinion-oriented isn't doesn't and is more for the love of the game.

Hayes,

You're everywhere I look these days. Good work on the SBNation article. Glad to see you contributing over there. You get paid for this stuff? Or you just love writing about basketball so much you can't stop?

Dope to hear praise for the young guys from a former Piston like Uncle Cliffy. A coaching change is necessary if these guys are to really reach their potential together. Hopefully we can keep them together, provided they're improving enough, til we can find a good coach to run things.

Great job Patrick! Took me down memory lane a little and reminded of some of your earlier work. Robinson was one of my faves, even dating back to his trailblazing days. Pieces like that is what gained me as a fan of your writing on my favorite sports team. Keep up the good work!

Ah, two of my more favorite Pistons. Always rooted for Uncle Cliff. I also liked what Mikki Moore brought to the table. They may not have won a ring here but they did play some really good basketball for us.
