I would NEVER give him a max contract if I didn't see a considerable amount of evidence that he and Drummond can play together and be effective for long stretches. I think this team is headed for yet another blunder in a long string of blunders by overcommitting to him before you have the FOGGIEST idea what a Monroe-Drummond frontcourt looks like.

Trading him and getting a lot of value would be very easy right now. Once you've committed to five years at around $14 million per? I'm not particularly confident. The worst case scenario is to extend him and then figure out that he and Drummond don't complement each other, and then you're in serious danger of having to unload him for a song.

A few years from now we will all be talking about Greg is overpaid. He is not a max player, anytime you have to factor in "IF" then we are truly speculating. He may develop into a MAX player but right now he isn't there.

I think we are making the mistake of evaluating these players on this terrible team. If Drummond and Monroe played together and if we had consistant perimeter shooting it would open up so much for him. Now, for me, this explains why he is not a max player. However, if he is surrounded by talent and continues at his current pace, I doubt any one will ask that question when we get the right players surrounding him.

if Greg comes back next year with a legit 15-17 footer...he is an All-Star no doubt...his scoring goes from 16-17 to 20plus ppg ....and he then gets less turnovers...and young 20 and 10 players are worth max deals...
