A knee or kick to the nuts would constitute assault. There are very few situations in life in which that would be appropriate. This wasn't one of them. Use this little guideline to determine whether a violent action is appropriate: If it will subdue and defuse what otherwise appears to be a violent situation that is continuing (as in, someone is beating up someone else and continuing to do so, not they just did beat up someone else and are now "getting away with it"), it is appropriate. If it will represent an escalation of violence or is likely to result in an escalation of violence (like someone is holding you and you strike them), it is inappropriate. Do you listen to yourself?
