Yeah, they could make a deal and give up the pick to Charlotte. But, I'm not entirely certain if they have to get permission.

Under the CBA, the Pistons technically are trading their 2013 1st round pick and they reserve the option to renege on the deal and push it back to 2014 under the agreed conditions. I'm not sure if they're REQUIRED to push it back a year if it's covered by the protections- because, in the end, they are still giving up the 2013 1st round pick they agreed to trade.

If the Pistons get a lottery pick this season, I believe the Pistons could trade it to Charlotte for the pick Charlotte already acquired from Detroit. The Bobcats would have to agree to this new trade, of course.

Jack might improve this team...right now. But that still represents no value to the Pistons for whom this is a lost season. Playmakers of Jack's caliber are readily available every offsesason if it were determined that one would be beneficial to Detroit for next season.

So when I say Jack would have no value to the Pistons, I mean it in the same way that Max and Prince have no value.

Acquiring another first-round pick would change everything. What could happen depends on the conditions that pick.

Just rumblings from assorted columns quoting scouts. Here's just one you can read and decide how much credence to give it.
http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2013/01/13/3786420/scout-recommends-charlotte-bobcats.html

I've also heard a few quotes here and there on TV and on the radio suggesting that this class is short on 'franchise changers.'
I know this isn't a completely fair barometer, but Cody Zeller might be the #1 pick in this draft and if put in last year's draft, he likely would have been 15th-20th.

Jarrett Jack would have decent value with us. He can run an offense probably better than any guard on our team. But I do agree that Golden State would never do that deal. Probably not even a 1 for 1 deal for Stuckey And Jack straight up. Knight put together a few good games after that forgettable game in London, but that still doesn't decrease our need for a point guard. I think he is highly overrated especially by us Piston fans.

A handful of commenters on this site regularly claim that the 2013 draft will be a weak one. Why? I see no reason to believe that. It is not commonly labeled so by the media and there are plenty of players in it I'd love to see the Pistons add.

And no, the Pistons cannot simply choose to unprotect their traded pick. And assuming they are likely to be better next year than this (which seems a decent assumption), they'd have no reason to want to.

I think the GSW front office would deafen you with their collective laughter. Klay Thompson clearly has way more value than Stuckey. Also, Jack has tremendous value to the Warriors where he would have none to the Pistons. Finally, the Warriors are kicking ass this season. Why would they gamble away a recipe that works for what would be highly improbable to be any more than a lateral move?

Used the ESPN Insider NBA trade machine, and this is a trade that would benefit both sides. We would trade Stuckey for Klay Thompson and Jarrett Jack. We get a shooter and then draft Bennett (SF) in the draft.
PG: BK7SG: Klay ThompsonSF: BennettPF: Greg Monroe C: Drummond
Both teams would increase their wins according to the John Hollinger PER ratings. This would be a team that would be able to start being a major contender in the East and in the league.
What do the people think?
