Pistons ‘at front of line’ to acquire Jose Calderon in Rudy Gay-to-Raptors trade
Sources say deal will morph to include third team to take Calderon, w/Detroit at front of line to land Spaniard after chasing him all season
Third team not yet in stone but Pistons have had interest in Calderon all season & have two SFs to help MEM fill Gay void: Prince & Maggette
OMG. OMG. OMG. OMG. OMG. I’m dancing around my house at just the possibility.

Wait does anyone really think that getting Calderon will help us become a “contender?” I really like getting rid of Prince but I think we should ship Calderon to Dallas for a draft pick or something useful

He doesn’t make us a contender, but he brings to the table many of the things we lack as a team. He’s steady, and rarely turns the ball over. He’s a great passer, someone who can run the PnR with Drummond or an inside out game with Monroe. He’s a great shooter (43% from 3) that would help open the floor.
Dallas also doesn’t have much to offer. They aren’t going to give us a lottery pick for Calderon, and they already owe a pick to OKC if they make the playoffs.

Oh ok.. the only thing I’m worried about is losing our draft pick now because we will win more often (I know its kind of sad for a Pistons fan not to be rooting for them to win a whole lot)

This is all about money, so we should be very wary of how the trade would go down. To start, a straight Prince, Calderon, Davis, Gay swap doesn’t work under current rules. We wouldn’t be sending out enough salary to compensate for Calderon’s salary.
In order to work, we would have to include Daye, Knight, or Bynum to Memphis. Daye makes the most sense for all parties. Daye is expendable to us (Singler and JJ become our SFs), but actually provides several things Memphis would be looking for. He’s an expiring contract and a three point shooter. Memphis doesn’t want extra future payroll and is a very poor shooting team. Daye gives them a spot up option on the perimeter around their big men.
Understandably, Memphis may not really like what we are selling, but at this point the money is the driving factor.

So what’s the starting line up going to look like?

Most likely?
PG Calderon
SG Knight
SF Singler
PF Maxiell
C Monroe
Ideally?
PG Calderon
SG Knight
SF Singler
PF Monroe
C Drummond

At worst, I hope we play Calderon and Drummond together a lot. A true PG like Calderon could make a significant positive impact in Drummond’s offensive development.

i think knight starts w/ calderon. boy o boi! we will have a small backcourt.
