Isaiah Thomas on Charlie Villanueva, whom NBA fined for flagrant foul: ‘It was a dirty play, and he’s a dirty player’
NBA release:
Detroit Pistons forward Charlie Villanueva has been fined $25,000 for his Flagrant Foul Two on Sacramento Kings guard Isaiah Thomas, it was announced today by Stu Jackson, Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations.
The incident occurred with four seconds remaining in the second quarter of the Pistons’ 103-97 win over the Kings at The Palace of Auburn Hills on Jan. 1.
Jason Jones of the Sacramento Kings:
The Kings said it wasn’t the first hard foul by Villanueva. Thomas said the fact he was airborne on the play wasn’t the worst part for him.
"No, it was just the fact that it was a dirty play and he’s a dirty player," Thomas said. "It is what it is. He got kicked out of the game, so it wasn’t nothing big. A lot of guys do stuff like that knowing you can’t really fight in this league, so it’s all right."
If you haven’t seen the play yet, here it is:
Maybe this was just the straw that broke the camel’s back. After all, the Kings claim Villanueva had made hard fouls before, and perhaps some of those crossed into dirty territory. Plus, Villanueva has a history of getting into on the court, whether or not he appears to be at fault.
But in isolation, it certainly appears Thomas and the NBA overreacted to what appeared to be a run-of-the-mill hard foul.

I like my bums of the hard-fouling variety, so I’ll allow it.

Geez the league has gone soft over the last 10 years. The softness of the league today is the reason LeBron can never be compared to Jordan. As a piston fan we had front row seats to how hard he got mauled when we played Jordan. What ever happened to ‘no blood, no foul’??

This is what I’m saying.
I mean, come on, yeah, he went up with the shiver looking for a hit, but a Flagrant 2? I can see the 1… but really, grow some balls. Basketball is a contact sport, if you can’t take a hit, get out.
I’m a rugby player, so I’m a little biased; elbows, knees, heads, fists, whatever, you take it and keep playing. I’m the same age as most of these guys in the league and have taken harder hits, just get up and keep playing. But seriously, that’s like a misquote bite… If you’re in the paint, expect to get hit by a big fella. Too many people get free passes. These guards are too used to open lanes and marshmallow-hits.
One of the reasons I love Stuckey is because he’s not afraid to take a hit. He will drive to the basket against anyone. You take a hit, and you shoot 2; sounds like a good trade to me.

It is not a real sport if you dont get cauliflower ears.
Watching a video like that- I can not believe CV got ejected- then recieved a 25k fine. I doubt Isaiah Thomas even has a bruise to show for his brush with ‘a dirty player’. NBA players have too much money, spend too much time writing about themselves on twitter, and are too sensitive.

Now if he would have socked Charlie V in the face like the real Isaih Thomas would , then I would respect him.

The reason the league (Stern) has cracked down on the hard fouls is because they/he wants uncontested highlight dunks. This is also the same reason they brought in the defensive 3 second rule and the circle under the ring because it stops teams from packing the lane so it creates open driving lanes. I am all for the flashy dunks but the game was ok 10 years ago without these rules so i don’t know why they keep changing them. Oh yes i do know why they brought them in…its so defensive teams like the Pistons and Spurs in 2005 don’t meet in the NBA finals. I am hearing rumours that the next rule to come in will be that you can slap/tap the ball off the ring whereas if you did it in a game today it would be classed as goal tending.

I’ve never been one to shy away from criticizing Charlie V, but that’s barely a flagrant 1… he went for the ball and just continued on his motion after missing the block.
The only person that deserved a tech from that was Thomas, for leaping up looking for a fight. 2 foul shots and possession was plenty.

Oh Lil Boy Fake Isiah Thomas has never been hit by Carl Malone, else he would’ve known Charlie V just planted a love kiss. Ask the “Real Isiah Thomas”, About hits by power forwards.

Not to mention back before we because a nation of pus…. err babys this wouldn’t have even been a flagrant 1.
