I'd love Scola on this team. He'd be our Okur type big off the bench without the 3pt shooting of coarse.

the ncaa could definitely learn the lesson the nba has already incorporated. their record, especially with african-american football coaches, is shameful.

An even better option would be if we could get them to take Charlie Villanueva and Rodney Stuckey and through in Louis Scola. Scola is a very tradeable asset and we could put him and Daye in a package for picks or a project from a contender looking to bolster it's roster. We'd be rid of a lot of the dead weight on our roster and have some new options.

It looks like Lindsey Hunter did get the job. I wish him luck. Hunter never became what we hoped he'd be here in Detroit but he did finally become a contributor and a champion.

As for Phoenix they've but together a roster that's just not good enough. I like Goran Dragic, Louis Scola, Marcin Gortat and Jared Dudley they're all NBA players and guys who can help winning teams but none of them are guys who can carry a team.

I wonder if we could get Phoenix to bite on a swap of Rodney Stuckey and Austin Daye for Jared Dudley, Wesley Johnson (filler) and a some form of pick? Stuckey has his flaws but he and Dragic could give them a new identity as their starting back court. Austin Daye still teases and could develop.

I like Dudley as a young vet who can step in and take over if we decide to move Tayshaun Prince (though as I've said I like Tayshaun staying here) and as a guy who can improve our three point shooting without being a liability in other areas.

I feel like this would be a good move if we're a) realistic about missing the playoffs this year and b) looking to make them next year.
What do you all think?

look...i am an african american fan from decades past.
i've been following thepistons and the nba since the mid sixties. seriously.
i remember a time when an african american could not be hired. period.
(bill russell was the exception.)
then, you could be hired, if you were exceptional, like lenny wilkins or russell or kc jones.
it is truly a sign of progress that guys like gentry - who is the living embodiment of mediocrity - can be hired and fired, just like all of the other mediocre white nba coaches who keep getting hired and fired.
now, if you are african american, you can be just as average, just as mediocre, as alvin gentry and lawrence frank and you can be hired and fired just like any other retread nba head coach.
that, imho, is progress.
and certainly something to celebrate on MLK Day.
