Dallas Mavericks to debut hotshot young guard Derek Fisher tonight against the Pistons
Essentials
- Teams: Detroit Pistons (5-12) at Dallas Mavericks (7-9)
- Date: Dec. 1, 2012
- Time: 9 p.m.
- Television: FSD
What to look for
Last night’s loss to the Memphis Grizzlies featured plenty of struggles from Detroit’s three-guard rotation of Brandon Knight, Rodney Stuckey and Kyle Singler. Tonight against the Mavs, the team’s guards have a shot at redemption as the Dallas backcourt has been anything but stable lately.
In fact, Dallas is in such dire need of steady guard play that the team recently signed fresh faced guard Derek Fisher, who is just a shade younger than the combined age of Detroit’s two starters, Singler and Knight. (Side note: loved this trip down memory lane looking at some of the luminaries Fisher has played with. A handful of former Pistons on that list.)Starting point guard Darren Collison is questionable tonight with an injury, and Dominique Jones, who has been getting minutes in Collison’s stead, is shooting just 33 percent.
At the other guard spot, former lottery pick O.J. Mayo has rejuvenated his career a bit. He’s having a nice season for the Mavs, averaging 19.8 points per game, making 48 percent of his shots and 51 percent of his 3-pointers (don’t get any ideas with that free agency money you have if Mayo opts out, Joe Dumars).
The Mavs also feature native Michigander Chris Kaman, who is averaging 13 points and six rebounds per game, and Vince Carter, still toiling away launching fadeaway jumpers. The team is still without star forward Dirk Nowitzki, but they’ve somehow been competitive this season (having a fantastic coach helps) while waiting for Dirk’s return.
One player on the Mavs I’m excited to watch — former Marquette standout Jae Crowder. Crowder’s numbers aren’t outstanding, but the second round pick has been a nice, energetic rotation piece who gives the Mavs a little bit of scoring, a little bit of defense and toughness and he’s making 35 percent of his 3-pointers. Not bad value at all for the second round.

Looking like an “A” night for Knight and Singler. Heck, even Stuckey is looking good and he can’t hit a shot.

a good coach would tell Knight to take Derek Fisher to the basket everytime…A systems coach says …Set the offense

Derek Harper is the worse color commentary guy ever…he said Monroe is a good offensive big man… Maxiell isnt normally confident in his jumper… he said Singler is streaky

When I first turned this game on at the end of the fourth quarter and we were pulling ahead, I knew we were supposed to win but I thought somehow Rick Carslisle was going out coach Frank

I so wish we could play Maggette like we do Will Bynum now…
He is the only player with no assists and no rebounds. Jerebko would do so much better as backup SF

Drummond makes a mistake he does to the bench….Maxiell makes several and he gets to play through

Hey the way Drummond let Elton ‘fucking’ Brand get to the basket as easy as he did at the start of the 4th i would of benched his ass too. One thing i have noticed that Drummond does really bad is rotate with his guy he is supposed to be defending. Drummond has to start thinking a head on defence and not just rely on his size and athleticism.

lol..he gave up one play…Maxiel and Monroe has their ass handed to them ALL GAME!!!
A team with NO identity will not win in this league

I see CV’s hot shooting has gone cold. Also Maggette has brought nothing the last 3 games. I say either JJ has to come back into the rotation for CV or English has to come in for Maggette. Even better i say do both!

What’s the use of a small forward with no rebounds and no assists and doesn’t score well? He can embrace the process well I guess.

I figured we would not win this game, for one we don’t match up we’ll against Dallas , even with out Dirk. And second Carlisle is a player coach. Frank is a video coach. NO COMPETITION.

Monroe has played like a bitch tonight. 1st he dribbles the ball off his foot (unguarded) and then gets it picked of him down low on various occasions. I am not a fan of Frank but this game is on the players. I give them all F’s
