Chauncey Billups ‘I’m a lifetime Piston,’ but it sounds like he’s moved on (and good for him)
“I will just say this, first and foremost: No matter what happens, I’m a lifetime Piston. I always feel like I’m a lifetime Piston,” Billups told the Free Press this morning at the Palace. “As you know, I would have loved to retire a Piston when I was here, but that really wasn’t in the cards.
“You never say never to any situation. I got nothing but great memories about here and winning, and this building was on fire. I would like for my memories to stay like that.”
Translation: These Pistons aren’t my Pistons. My Pistons won and filled The Palace. These Pistons do neither, so returning to Detroit would tarnish all the good I associate with the franchise if I had to be associated with this dreck.

Yeah I read this article and thought there was a strange disconnect between the headline and the interview. It sounded like Chauncey is all but certain he’d never come back.

Only Vince Ellis would bother asking that question.
