I'm sorry, where are you getting this from? I said "I also disagree because we have no where near the talent OKC does." Also "The only player on this squad that looks like he <strong>might</strong> require a max contract someday is Monroe, and <strong>he still has a ways to go.</strong>" I would go on, but clearly you read two sentences before jumping to your own conclusions, instead of actually, you know, reading the whole thing.

Well, unless the Pistons get rid of a certain two players who have long stagnated we're never going to know.

I am not yet convinced that Monroe and especially Drummond are max contract players. Monroe will definitely command 8 digits. Drummond probably will but you can never tell much of anything five and a half games into a player's career.

Also, OKC could afford to keep Harden. They chose not to because they will make more of a profit this way. but you're kidding yourself if you think they couldn't make a profit while paying some luxury tax. And by the time the contracts got real big, Perkins would be off the books (or he could be amnestied whenever).

Jeff Green wasn't worth the contract he wanted.

Besides a shooter, overall this team needs better defenders in the starting line up, and the bench.

Maybe don't bring up OKC if you're trying to argue against that model? Regardless of what they've done with their picks, they've been able to come away with solid rotation players and will continue to contend for NBA titles for the foreseeable future. Just because they decided to go a different direction doesn't mean the model didn't work for them, clearly it did.

I also disagree because we have no where near the talent OKC does. The only player are this squad that looks like he might require a max contract someday is Monroe, and he still has a ways to go. Drommund also might reach that level, if he can add the skills and smarts to compliment his ridiculous athleticism. However, neither is a lock to ever make it to that level. Drafting in the lotto one more year wouldn't hurt the Pistons, it would only add another valuable asset, whether that comes through draft or trade.

This team doesn't need to tank to be a lotto team either. Realistically getting the best out of this team probably means drafting somewhere between the 8-14 range.

You have a point. Kyrie Irving is the best player on a bad team. Knight is the second or third best player on a bad team. It would be interesting to see what Knight could do if he were THE guy, like Irving is over in Cleveland.

We need a valuable straight up shooter. The Thunder aren't comparable to the Pistons unless you think that somehow magically either Andre/Monroe are going to be a Ibaka and Knight is going to be a Westbrook calibur player. I don't buy the fact that we will have to use "max contracts" to keep any of our players except for maybe Monroe. + It would seem in Monroe's nature to take a pay hit if he truly wanted to stay in Detroit which he seems to want to.

<p>"They have enough young talent. If they want to make the playoffs they need to start adding vets around them who can produce consistently, not more rookies."

One way that you acquire talented veterans is by cashing in young prospects in trades for them. So I agree, another young player doesn't necessarily do much to make the Pistons better on the court (unless they win the lottery). But it certainly gives them another valuable trade chip. </p>

That's the best rationale for that trade that I have heard yet.
