It's less about taking CP3 et al. Anyone would be delighted to have those guys. It's about the fact that obviously getting one of them would be an extreme long shot. But it would be disgraceful if Dumars didn't at least try anyway.

I'd definitely take CP3 too!
Something real bad would have to happen in LA though.

Gay isn't a FA. He would have to come via trade. I could also be real happy with Iggy. But he may well want to resign with the Nuggets.

It probably won't work, but I certainly hope that Dumars makes a run at Howard, Bynum, and CP3 anyway. Any of them would make Detroit an instant contender. And who cares that Detroit has apparent core pieces at those positions. Drummond/Knight can come off the bench or be traded for a SF if one of those superstars could be convinced to join the Pistons.

I love Smoove's game. But yeah, he is not the most cerebral player. He has to be reigned in sometime son offense. But he is a great defender and he would bring something unique to this team.

Smoove's age and regular boneheaded play would make me consider Millsap over Smith. Millsap's game is a bit too similar to Monroe's, and therefore not a s complimentary as Josh Smith. But there are much worse guys to be similar to.

Living in Atl and just knowing and watching the hawks/ J Smith, i just wonder about his bad shot selection he consistently takes with no reguard to changing and at times his attitude when things dont go his way smh. He may even be on his downside of career. Id just wait and see and use what we have now..

if we're going to spend on a free agent, it should be Josh Smith or Paul George. Maybe Rudy Gay.

If not, keep the money and develop from within. Don't spend money on anything less. Don't spend anything on another half baked scorer - gotta be a star.

First step is to make this an attractive destination by suprising the league this year, hitting the playoffs, and having a solid rotation with our young players in it. Then when certain vets expire there's room for growth, an exciting team, and a perfect fit for a BonaFide STAR SF/PF or PG that wants to be a part of something special.

Another reason to hope the Pistons make the playoffs this year. I'd rather have a perfect situation for a star free agent than a #13 draft pick in a weak draft.

If Daye plus cash/English/Singler/Middleton/future 2nd rounder could fetch Calderon, that'd be great. But definitely do not expect to see a CV trade. He is way overpaid and Detroit can amnesty him in the offseason making him (for cap room purposes) an expiring deal. But only for the Pistons. Nobody else will be able to amnesty him if he is traded. So his value is just much higher in Detroit than it would be anywhere else. That is to say that his negative value is not as much in Detroit as it would be elsewhere.

I think it's a bit early to claim that Knight's drop was as dumb as Monroe's or Drummond's. Just about any prospect list ranking who'd have the best career (not what order they'd be drafted in) had Knight right around 8th--where he was taken. Based on all-rookie team voting, he was somewhere between the 5th and 7th best player in the draft, and that was with the bonus he had of being on a team with an easy rotation to break into.

Knight may end up great and will almost certainly be better than at least a couple of the guys taken before him (and probably worse than a couple taken after). But Monroe was in a draft with 5 really good prospects (and Minny who was long known to be high on Wes Johnson). And he somehow slipped past Udoh. Drummond was in a draft with 6 really good prospects (and Portland who was long known to be high on Lillard). And he somehow slipped past Waiters and Ross.

Knight was a very different case. The only reason Knight was projected to go much higher than he actually did was because experts expected a PG-desperate team to reach for him. The inexplicable slides of that draft were Valanciunas falling past Thompson, Leonard being available at 15, and Faried available at 22.
