Maybe my opinions make sense to you !!!

(1) People please, I think the players who sit on the bench all the time are actually the SAFE ones because a NBA team GM would need to SEE/WATCH any player actual performance in games as much as possible in order to evaluate if he want to make the trade for this player or not. How does any GM know if this player would contribute in their team if that player always sit on the bench??? So those Pistons who has been wearing Pistons uniform for long time but has been played lots of minutes in this preseason so far are actually the possible ones who Joe D. wants to trade during this season or next Summer!!!

(2) From what I have been reading online so far, I know Pistons has designed a series of training particular in weight training for Austin, especially in this past summer. As the result, Mr. Daye has gained extra 20 lbs so far and I believe the Pistons trainer is still pushing him to maintain the weight training thing in daily basis. This also shows that Pistons still want to keep Daye in long term because they still want him to be more stronger than before for future seasons. Otherwise, they don't need to do all this for him and maybe not even let him to participate the Orlando Summer League games during this past July.

The Pistons have several expiring contracts - Maggette, Maxiel, Daye, and Bynum, so they can construct whatever salary # they need for a trade. Or include one with another player who isn't expiring.

It's hard to do much with a $3M expiring deal. Even if it were larger, the only value in expiring deals is if you feel like taking back a longer term contract. And that would blow cap room. Any value gained by trading Daye as an expiring deal would be neutralized when the offseason come s around. Expiring deals have more trade value for teams that will still be over the cap in the coming season. Because they wouldn't turn into cap space. So they may as well be used during the season. The Pistons are not in that position.

A player is useful to the team if either (1) he's a good basketball player who has at least some chance of contributing on the floor, or (2) he's valuable in trade for some reason.

In Daye's case, cutting him would be foolish because he is on an expiring contract. A sack of potatoes with a $3m expiring NBA contract would be a valuable trade asset, and so is Austin Daye - for precisely the same reasons.

Middleton? He's a young player they just drafted and signed to a 3 year contract. He's coming off an injury, which deflated his draft stock. He showed much better in preseason than in summer league, suggesting that he's improved substantially as he's recovered from the kneee surgery. Releasing him would be entirely illogical.

CV? If they release him, they owe him big money - $8m plus - each of the next two years, and it counts against the cap. If he rots on the bench, they can amnesty him next summer and add his last year's salary to available cap space. He has to sit on the roster until they amnesty him next summer. With hindsight, it's clear they should have amnestied him this past summer, but all it would have accomplished is open up a roster spot. They obviously had hopes he'd be useful this year, which is no longer looking likely to anyone, I'd think.

TWill? He has no trade value. Anyone could have him for a minimum contract, and no one has offered him one. In all probability, they can pick him up again during the season, if a spot opens up due to a trade, or next summer, if he showed them enough to be interesting. If he wouldn't make the rotation - not the roster, the rotation - there's no reason to keep him over any other player on the team.

"Daye was awful, but with $3 million guaranteed"

This where we need to bring up that Joe once again messed up by picking up Daye's option waaaaaaay too early. I understand that if he didn't he would've been admitting picking Daye was a mistake but it just seemed to magnify the situation and how bad a choice he was.

I like to think that JaVale is not going to use the balance/footwork/coordination techniques he learned working with Hakeem Olajuwon this summer for basketball. Instead, he's going to best his own freezer plank with something that makes it pointless for anyone else to even try.

Since robots cannot lie: I must confess that I voted for T Will, due to his obvious lack of planking pictures.

...or perhaps it is because Mr. Daye is most logically usefull this season as $3 million worth of expiring contract for trade.

Either way, I eagerly await the next Daye or CV planking pic. Can anyone best JaVale McGee's freezer plank?
