I'm agreeing with people a lot today. It wouldn't bother me in the slightest (and would actually make me a bit happier) if Maggette never actually played for this team. He doesn't add defense, he doesn't add passing, and already last year his offense fell off a cliff. The team as a whole is in no way improved now nor helped to developed by such a player. The only thing his presence would do is prove to the young guys is that working hard doesn't matter, Frank will still play the old loser instead of you.

Technically, a marathon is a race, but Maggette isn't the first (and won't be the last) athlete to mangle his metaphors.

we can only hope that he misses all 82 games.
i've always liked maggette as a player, when he could play, warts and all.
but he is just the latest in a steady stream of retreads and marginal vets who steal precious PT time from young players who need to get on the court and play. either so they can become part of this team's future or so that the team can establish some kind of value so they can be packaged for trade.
continuing to waste draft choices on players who end up glued to the bench for one or two or three years before they are jettisoned for zilch is the reason the team is in this weird semi-permanent limbo of rebuilding while trying to sneak up on the last playoff spot.
i hope his absence tonight is a sign of future things to come.
