I do have to say though, Don Reid was great. Everytime he took the floor I said to myself If only he were 3 inches taller. He had more heart and played hard everytime he was on the floor. It was easy to see his effort and shortcomings. If only Austin Daye played that hard, but I digress...

Just thinking back on that entire Doug Collins era to me is just depressing. I mean people today complain about Dumars, but when Doug spazzed and alienated everyone and Tom Wilson was in the Ivory tower thinking he was smarter than everyone-- and panic traded for Stacey Augmon and Grant Long. That was a time for harsh criticism and panic (remember the teal and horsehead). Collins was a good coach but was just too much, too emotional, too critical, too x's and o's, too rah rah, just too much of everything.

That may have been my favorite draft ever. We didn't maximize their talent in Detroit but all three of those dudes played hard and played smart. Don Reid is easily my favorite Piston ever just because he wasn't supposed to make it at all and then he made himself a starter and lasted. Bad teams and poor decisions but good memories.
