I understand the headline but would like to point out that he was in much better shape last season than the season before and even admitted it. He also started more games than he ever had before last season so that might be contributing, both as a carry over and in terms of his mindset and thoughts about where he needs to be, So while a contract is obviously incentive, his being in shape might actually be part of a positive trend.

Last year was technically a contract year for him too since he had an opt-out.

This is great news because there will be compition at all 5 positions, the rookies and young players will know that know that nothing is given and they must put in the work each and every day to earn there playing time.
