Jonas Jerebko predicts Pistons will make the playoffs

Via Os Davis of Ball In Europe, Pistons forward Jonas Jerebko after his Swedish team’s loss to Germany in FIBA EuroBasket 2013:

Sweden’s NBA representative and top scorer at 22.0 ppg in the tourney, Jonas Jerebko, was surprisingly optimistic regarding his Detroit Pistons’ chances in 2012-13 and stoically realistic/pessimistic about the national team.

Jerebko was quite sunny about the 2012-13 edition of Pistons. The goal, Jerebko reckons, is to make the playoffs – an aim which, despite playing what the Swede calls “playoff-level basketball,” was well missed in ‘11-12. As for Team Sweden, well … despite a “very bright future,” making a proper splash in EuroBasket competitions will happen “not right now.”

Likely NOT making the playoffs this year, but I think after another year with Monroe, Knight and Drummond all growing and if Stuckey can continue to shine we should be able to make playoffs in 2014, plus we’ll have money to spend on free agents to make the team better. I think ESPN’s 30 win season for us sounds about right but I’m still excited to watch our younguys grow this season

we will be better than a 30 win season.  the growth of this team is going to show this season.  Im still not sure if we will make the playoffs but im sure we will be in the runnings for it.

I think there’s a 50/50 shot of making the playoff this year.  Teams like Orlando and Atlanta are no longer locks and we are going to have an interior shotblocking presence…that’s huge.

Knight’s develop will determine how much this team improves more than anything else.  If he can run the offense better, we will stand a good chance to make the playoffs.

Sorry to nitpick, but the headline doesn’t make sense. He’s either predicting the playoffs or it’s not a prediction. Though I seem to remember him officially GuaranSwedeing a playoff berth. Sounds like he’s backed off his stance some since then. Maybe he just looked around at the East and recognized around 9 superior teams.

As for MY prediction, next season looks a lot like the last three, only younger. For most of the season it’ll look like they’re in some sort of playoff race. The optimists will think they’re a lot closer than they really are. Desperate to make the playoffs, Dumars will pass on opportunities to improve the team’s future (like trading a productive Tayshaun, Maggette, Max, or someone else who can’t figure into the team’s plans). We’ll finish with a similar win percentage, somewhere between 30 and 40. 10th in the East is about as optimistic as I can go until I see how good teams like Cleveland and Washington and Milkwaukee are. But we miss the playoffs convincingly and everyone who thought we could challenge for a 6 seed makes dumb excuses so they don’t feel ridiculous.

      The title is misleading…
His actual quote from the linked article is ” We’ve got a young, deep team, and we’re going to make the playoffs”
      I think that’s a guaranswede (lol @labatts)

I think our record will be 40-42 and we’ll be an 8th seed team…Remember, Chad “wrong” Ford thinks we’ll be a 26th ranked team…

Didn’t Jodi ‘Right’ Jezz predict Ben Gordon would be the team’s best player with Hamilton gone before last season?

No, when did I say that?? I always gave Ben Gordon credit while everyone talked negatively about him…I like players that come out of UCONN…
