Vyacheslav Kravtsov facing buyout issues?
Artem Panchenko of Sports.ru (hat tip: Sean Corp of Detroit Bad Boys):
BC Donetsk informed us that Kravtsov is still under the contract with a team for the next season. Pistons should expect some buyout issues
Sometimes, NBA teams get off guard with these issues. Sometimes, NBA teams have already planned for these issues.
I have no idea which is the case here, but if I had to guess, Vyacheslav Kravtsov will be a Piston next season.
Players: Viacheslav Kravtsov

It’s hard to get upset about a guy we don’t know too much about and if it all falls through then you’d expect Big Ben would be vital to bring back. Not trying to worry but things could get even more concerning if we can come to a buyout agreement on Kravtsov, Ben retires and Macklin signs elsewhere. That would leave ours bigs going from looking solid to pretty thin. Hopefully management can sort this out asap.

I’m also guessing he’ll be on the roster next year and would like him to be, but with our roster issues and talk Ben may return, it wouldn’t be a great loss if he wouldn’t. Drummond looks a little more ready than people have been saying anyway.

A neutral source (Givony from Draft Express) thinks Kravtsov is ready to be something of an impact player. Gotta think the Pistons will do what they have to to have him on the roster. He’s done Euroball for long enough.

If he doesn’t come over, it’s not the end of the world. Between Ben, Macklin, Monroe, and Drummond, we have plenty of big bodies to play center. Maxiell is strong enough to play the position as well.
It would probably be better for us long-term if Drummond plays the minutes Kravtsov was supposed to get anyways.

Macklin is an unrestricted free agent. He is only playing on our summer league team and is actually free to sign with any team he wants to.

They’d have to be really clueless to get blocked by a buyout issue, in this case. Normally the problem is with a young star player with a large buyout and a cap on his pay due to the salary schedule for first round picks. And NBA teams are capped in how much they can pay toward a buyout. In this case, as Kravtsov is an undrafted free agent, they can pay him anything they want (up to the midlevel exception). So if his buyout is a million $, just add that to his salary in the first year so he can pay the buyout. Problem solved.

Iam sure they were aware of this in the first place. Since Joe has already said they check backgrounds rather thorough. His Club team probably wants to get their name out there. This is a non-issue. Iam sure the Pistons have high price lawyers and accountants to figure these things out. As others stated this isnt their first go-around with an international player. If i remember correctly Darko’s team said whoever drafted him was gonna have issues and what happened DArko was there for day 1. SO to conclude my rambling I say theres nothing to worry about and he will be here.
