Pistons sign Kim English

From a team news release:

The Detroit Pistons announced today that the club has signed second round draft selection Kim English to a contract. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

English, who was selected with the 44th pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, played four seasons at Missouri and averaged 14.1 points (.521 FG), 4.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists as a senior. He scored in double figures in 26-of-35 games a year ago, including seven games with 20-plus points. English shot 45.9% from beyond the arc last season and shot better than 36.0% from three-point range in each of his four years with the Tigers. He earned All-Big 12 Second Team honors as a senior and was named Most Outstanding Player of the 2012 Big 12 Tournament. English averaged 11.1 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.1 steals and 24.2 minutes in 141 games at Missouri, shooting 39.4% (239-606 3FG) from three-point range for his career.

That leaves the Pistons with one unsigned draft pick, Khris Middleton, who has struggled so far in summer league play. English has shot the ball pretty well and been aggressive, and his 3-point shooting fills an obvious need on the roster. Middleton, on the other hand, is stuck in a numbers game. The Pistons might need a roster spot for Ben Wallace and Middleton plays the deepest position on the team, small forward.

I like this signing! He played ok in the 3 games so far. His defense really may have helped him get this signing more so than the shooting but hey im sure that was considered heavily as well.

So atm the roster is looking like this:

    Rodney Stuckey (signed)
    Brandon Knight (signed)
    Will Bynum (signed)
    Kim English (signed)
    Tayshaun Prince (signed)
    Kyle Singler (signed)
    Corey Maggette (signed)
    Austin Daye (signed)
    Jonas Jerebko (signed)
    Jason Maxiell (signed)
    Charlie Villanueva (signed)
    Andre Drummond (signed)
    Greg Monroe (signed)
    Vyacheslav Kravtsov ???
    Ben Wallace ???
    Khris Middleton ???

So with 13 guys signed you’d think that someone is either a) gonna get traded b) amnestied c) released d) sent overseas or e) a combination of a/b/c/d

Vyacheslav has already been signed to a multi-year deal so consider the roster at this point to be at 14. Comes down to Wallace or Middleton really, its a shame because I’ve really liked how Macklin and Gates have played so far.

Either way I’m really hoping for some combo of a/b/c/d that you’ve mentioned, more moves need to be done with this team.

god that roster looks infinitely better than last years. Subbing Damien Wilkins, Vernon Macklin and Walker Russell and Ben Gordon for Maggette, Drummond, English, Kravtsov

To be honest I never understood the Damien Wilkins signing from last year.

Perhaps Kyle Singler can sell Middleton on the virtues of a season in Spain.

That would be best because Maggette is gone after this year along with Daye, and it would give Middleton a year to get playing time in a competitive international league.

Solid solid 2nd round selection. Should be an excellent (CHEAPER!!!) substitute for Ben Gordon

I would release Byrum, Let  the rotatiion of Stuckey, Knight, English. Could use Maggette at the two. We don’t need that Ball Hog on the team. Keep Middleton & waive Byrum Good-bye!

if we send Middleton to the D-league or over seas then drafting him was pointless….could have drafted another PG ….

We have a log jam at SF but once again Middleton stay of play is sort of like a BIG SG….

Daye will spend most time as a Stretch PF….

But this is why we should have have re-signed Prince….and my we should amensty Charlie V….
