As the Managing Editor of a Virginia Tech blog, and a lifelong Hokie fan, I can tell you everything you need to know about Delaney. No MrHappyMushroom, he is definitely not a pass-first point guard. He can run an offense, and he can pass, but he prefers to be the team's #1 option. He is a great shooter, but he is akin to Jamal & Jordan Crawford, Nick Young, Sasha Pavlovic, etc., in that he's never met a shot he didn't like.

He has all the intangibles. He was THE leader of the Hokies by the end of his freshman year, when he sat the other players down after a blowout loss and told them that wasn't going to be the way they played and calling guys out for lack of effort.

He's pretty quick and athletic, but nothing that jumps off the page in the NBA. He's got a very good handle. The reason he wasn't drafted was two-fold (or three if you consider that he had a deal with a French team as a contingency plan if he went undrafted, but I doubt that NBA teams blackballed him for that); 1. He is more of a combo guard, and at 6'3" and -200 lbs., he doesn't possess the height or frame to guard taller wings, and 2. He's a volume shooter who can be lured into bad shots. Shots NBA defenses will willingly give up.

I think his NBA comparison is like a less explosive Allen Iverson or maybe even a Mo Williams. I expect him to stick at some point, but if he doesn't, it's because of his inability to improve the weaknesses of his game. He has the talent to be there. Also, he flops. Bigtime. And there are some really ridiculous ones. Unfortunately, Malcolm is the only player I have ever watched who suffers almost half his turnovers as a result of flopping and flailing, the result of which is throwing the ball in the air. Refs in college got wise to it after his sophomore year and he got the boy who cried wolf treatment more often than not after that point.

Delaney is a beast. This guy can flat out play. Unanimous 1st team all ACC as a Junior. Would/ve been a 1st round pick that year if he had stayed in draft. Four year starter at Virginia Tech.
Went to Franch last year. His Team won 3 different titles last year and finished 2nd in the Eurochallege. This guy does nothing but win.

I know Delaney he grew up in Baltimore . If you research him more he has alot of accolades. he also knows Carmelo Anthony. He recieved alot of college offers from Duke. Maryland, also North Carolina. he chose Virginia Tech over those colleges due to wanting to stay closer to Family, also was a starter coming in college. He was All-ACC team and also was the leading Scorer in the ACC in 2010. Delaney is that spark Detroit needs and he can be a leader in the locker room. Im Telling you he is a Winner. He can play the 1 and 2.

Wouldn't mind to send Bynum and Maxiell to Toronto in exchange for Calderon either. Good point there Patrick. The problem with CV is there's barely no incentive for any team to get him at this moment, a waste of money...unless someone belives he's going to be back to his best years..not likely imho... If just he was in his last year it would make everything easier in order to trade him I guess. I think we still we'll have to wait and see what Mr. Dumars has in mind...

There's not much incentive for the Raptors to do that. I think Calderon, although expensive, is still a valuable player. Villanueva is coming off an injury and awful season, plus the Raps already have a better stretch four in Bargnani. Not sure the minimal savings they'd get from Bynum's expiring deal would be worth it. They might consider a Maxiell-Bynum package, though, since both of those guys are expiring.

The Summer League Roster isn't about the entire squad; it's about the guys who are going to Detroit. With our current roster filled, Joe would have to find a major surprise to add him to the team.
But you still need guys to play on the summer league team. Even if only 3-5 guys really need/want the work, you still have to field an entire team. That's what this is about.
Stay calm. Johnson wasn't going to make the squad; and neither will Delaney.

Let's get Calderon, he's a true pass-first PG. He can shoot the ball too and has several years of NBA experience. Dan pointed out that a trade involving Calderon, Charlie V and Bynum would be possible. I would add that even realistic too...The Raptors are a total mess right now and Calderon has the feeling he won't be back to the team as he's involved in some trade rumors, so why not to the Pistons? getting rid of CV and getting a true PG? Let's go for it Joe D!!!
