You know now that I think about it I do remember reading about Casper. I still would prefer Machado, but there is no doubt Casper has talent. He’s had big games against good teams. He seems like one of those scoring pgs that can have the court vision to pass and can adapt if needed, kind of like Isaiah Thomas the absolute steal of last years draft. This is a smart move to give him a chance to rise to the occasion like his talent level and his history suggest. Could be the next Isaiah Thomas (Sacramento) if not the next Jeremy lin

I don’t think anyone is down on Ware necessarily, his skillset just doesn’t seem to be what the Pistons need in a backup guard.

Can’t shoot though. They need both passing and 3-point shooting. Ideally, they can find a backup who is a distributor and who can be a spot-up shooter to help Stuckey/Knight have more open lanes and be a nice target for Monroe out of the post.

sounds like nobody is an ncaa fan. casper is a 4 year starter & son of a LA street ball legend. last year he put up 40 next to lbj in the drew league during the lockout. he may be undersized, but his quickness & court vision more then make up for it. he can make the 3, go off the dribble, and pass the rock.

long beach played the #1 strength of schedule last year & almost won his first ncaa game last year against a tough draw in new mexico. go look at where this kid & his team played & then draw up a conclusion. i followed long beach state all last year & went to 7 of their games. this kid will be in the league for a decade.

Good for machado. He’ll probably end up getting paid more in the long run if he gets a good spot – since he’s the best point guard in this draft, and he won’t have to stick to a 3 yr minimum contract.
Sometimes It’s better to be lucky than smart, but I sure wish the Pistons were smart.

A PG that averaged 17 ppg on 36% shooting? Jesus. How many shots a game did he take? This looks like the worst PG in the country based on his stats.

Filling that 3rd guard role will be important. Hopefully they put a bit more effort into it than an undrafted, undersized rookie (I am sure they will). Did they want to get a vet to help with Knight’s development. Maybe if they want a backup who is more point guard orientated that could have factored into the willingness to move Ben Gordon on.

Not to get too off topic- but maybe Derek Fisher, Kirk Hinrich, maybe Mike Bibby if he is free, maybe Chauncy if they are happy to revisit that. Maybe move Magette’s expiring contract for a backup point if it is at all possible?
