Pistons ‘flirted’ with moving up to draft Andre Drummond
Chad Ford of ESPN, in his latest mock draft, has the Pistons draft John Henson:
Analysis: The Pistons, who desperately need size in the middle, are holding their breath that Drummond slides this far. If the Kings don’t take him at No. 5, he just might. They like John Henson, too. They need length, athleticism and shot-blocking — Henson provides all three.
Trade Scenarios: The Pistons have flirted with the idea of moving up to secure Drummond, but it’s more likely they stay at No. 9.
Pistons’ Big Board:
1. Thomas Robinson
2. Andre Drummond
3. John Henson
4. Tyler Zeller
5. Perry Jones

We will regret Drafting Henson this is the most talented draft from 1-30 …and he want to draft the most the skinnest one dimensional shot-blocker who practice really well since Shawn Bradley….. good luck

How about Jeremy Lamb? Detroit won a championship with Hamilton.

I think that if we don’t end up moving up, we will end up with Henson. Too many obstacles in the way for Drummond to fall despite all the falling talk

Wouldn’t Meyers Leonard be on their board before Perry Jones and Tyler Zeller?

If you actually read the Wizards section of that Chard Ford piece, it states that there have been discussions with teams about moving down to the 5th, 7th, 8th, and 9th pick. Detroit obviously has the #9 pick, but do they have enough to pull that off – really it depends on if Cleveland leap frogs Washington to get Beal as well.

Could end up looking like this:
1) N.O.: Davis
2) Charlotte: Robinson
3) Washington: Beal
4) Cleveland: Waiters (rumored to be where they may go and last year they were rumored to be going Tristan Thompson on draft day)
5) Sacramento: MKG
6) Portland: Lilalrd
7) Golden State: Barnes
8) Toronto: Austin Rivers
9) Detroit: Drummond

Would prefer Zeller as the “safe” pick. He can block some shots, but is heavy enough to stay on the court without constant fouling. He can reliably hit a jumper in the pick and roll, provides a center presence when Monroe sits, will maintain tradability since centers always do. Zeller also gives knight someone to pass to as a weapon near the basket.
Henson, everybody says is a great compliment to greg, but when greg sits or god forbid gets injured, Henson will be exposed as unable to defend the post against heavier PF’s or Centers. He will have to foul to keep from giving up space. And his claim that he will add 15 or more lbs of muscle is a fib. My friend the professional personal trainer said he is a classic ectomorph (or what’s it endo?) jwhatever, the guy simply can’t put on much muscle mass. His metabolism will just burn up the extra calories. And during the nba season these guys always lose a little weight. Recall daye trying to defend the post and being shoved out of the way on countless occasions. Henson will be daye plus shot blocking but minus free throw shooting or range. He is a reach here. Zeller would be the better pick IMHO

i really wanna believe he is a smokescreen….only because in recent years no one was predicted any of Joes pick currently….

I’d love to trade back and get Moultrie…or do something insane like trade up for Trob. He and Monroe would overwhelm most teams’ post defense. Extra defenders would have to pick their poison, defend the post with an extra guy and leave knight and stuckey open, or cover them and watch Monroe and Trob march to the free throw line.
Maybe we have the pieces for the trade…9 pick plus two expiring contracts and JJ (who I love).

only thing Detroit can offer is 15 million dollars of cap relief…. With Maggette and Maxiel expiring contacts..unless someone wants Stucky or some foolish team wants Prince or Charlie V….
Imma Trust that Joe is bluffing…maybe he is hiding Moultries….

I really hope the Detroit Pistons select one of the following players with their picks – Austin Rivers, Andrew Nicholson, Perry Jones or Jared Sullinger. I really really hope they get one of these guys….

1. Thomas Robinson
2. Andre Drummond
3. John Henson
4. Tyler Zeller
5. Perry Jones
If this is our real big board then it’s time somebody talked to Joe Dumars about his drinking problem. Look at that list. 1 Thomas Robinson-ah no shit but no chance either. 2 Andre Drummond-big risk, big reward way to goddamned high on the big board. 3 John Henson-great pick up for the San Antonio Spurs or some other bottom of the draft team. 4 Tyler Zeller-solid value but too high. 5 Perry Jones-Tim Thomas’ bastard son.
Our semi-realistic big board should be. 1 Michael Kidd-Gilchrist 2 Bradley Beal 3 Jeremy Lamb 4 Andre Drummond 5 Meyers Leonard 6 Terrence Jones 7 Tyler Zeller 8 Arnett Moultrie.

“Pistons ‘Flirted’ with Moving Up in the Draft.”
If the draft is based on need and possibility, then if they can move into the top 3 with a trade, Robinson becomes a possibility. Davis would be number 1, but New Orleans obviously isn’t shopping that pick, so there’s no possibility. If Dumars is willing to give up Knight or monroe and their #9 pick, then Robinson becomes a possibility.
No Henson in our “realistic board”? We have no need for the two time ACC defensive player of the year? Ok.

I really wish we would trade up and go get Drummond, he’s exactly what we need and it doesn’t make sense to wait around and hope good things happen…go make them happen. You won’t always get a team to pick Ekpe Udoh over Greg Monroe or have Brandon Knight fall to you, sometimes you gotta make it happen.
Sacramento has said they want to move back in the draft, so package some picks, give them an expiring contract like Maxiell and see if they say yes. You’re then in the 5 spot and you have Drummond.

I really don’t think Joe is going to draft Henson. I agree with Ray that Joe is going to move down if Drummond doesn’t fall. For some reason I think he might like Moultrie. I think there is still a chance that someone will fall to us like Monroe & Knight did. I won’t be shocked if Harrison Barnes falls.
