Festus Ezeli and Kevin Murphy to Pistons in ESPN’s second-round mock draft
39. Detroit Pistons
Festus Ezeli | C | Vanderbilt
The Pistons have a dearth of big men in the middle, and if Ezeli slides this far, they’ll snatch him right up. He’s not flashy, but he could have a long career as a backup 5 in the league.
44. Detroit Pistons (via Houston)
Kevin Murphy | SF | Tennessee Tech
The Pistons could really use another shooter at the wings. Murphy was one of the best scorers in college basketball, shooting 42 percent from beyond the arc.
I’d be thrilled if the Pistons get a serviceable big man in the second round, though I’m not entirely convinced Ezeli fits that bill. But, hey, you can’t get a serviceable big man in the draft unless you pull the trigger and draft a big man first.

I have them picking Henry Simms at 39 and his teamate Hollis Thompson at 44, a good back up center and a small forward that can shoot the 3 really well.

Ezeli and Murphy look like good fits. I’ve kind of been hoping for O’Quinn and Machado myself. O’Quinn has a huge (9’3″) reach and Machado could bring some passing off the bench and get the second team going. I think he’d make a nice change of pace guard. i’d be surprised if Ezeli were still available.
