He sounds like a good option, but does have some drawbacks, especially being a little slow on his feet, which along with his aggressiveness mentioned in the article could lead to a lot of fouls. Monroe is a pretty slow on his feet as well so that's not a great defensive combination. He's still one of my favorites in the 2nd round though.
The good thing is there's a pretty big group of promising players going late 1t/early 2nd, including Crowder, Draymond Green, O'Quinn, Andrew Nicholson, Drew Gordon, Festus Ezeli, Fab Melo and Scott Machado. We're almost sure to be in position to get at least one, maybe two of the group. Though to have the best selection I like the idea of trading for Boston's picks. And also bundling our 2 2nd rounders for a late 1st.

Unfortunately I think you're right, in that he won't be around for the Pistons to draft in the second round. I think he's exactly the type of player to take a risk on in this draft. Maybe they can combine their second round picks into a get a late first round pick. It sounds like they don't want to keep three rookies with Singler coming over anyways. I think trading back up to get O'Quinn could be a better option than stashing lesser talent/measurables over in Europe for a year or two. That's even if they get a big with their first pick. Melo and Ezeli could also be options, but there's just something about this kid that says "yes" to me. But that's purely an intuition. I do think he has a great attitude that could be contagious.

In Chad Ford's latest Mock (#7) he has Robinson at 2 and Henson still at 9 but says there's also a chance it could be Leonard. Pistons have that big workout on the 25th and I don't think anyone will have a good idea until that's over.

Trade down and get both Boston picks. I would go for O'Quinn and Royce White/Moe Harkless/Andrew Nicholson/or Fab Melo with number 21 and 22.

A couple of points: I never said I would take Moultrie at nine, either. I think he'd be a reach that high.

Also, they aren't both from small schools. Moultrie played at Mississippi State. Not exactly a basketball powerhouse, but they are a high major, they are in the SEC and he played against guys like Anthony Davis, for example, this season. O'Quinn faced nowhere near the competition level Moultrie did. Not saying that necessarily means one is better than the other, but they did face far different competition.

I like O'Quinn. I still wouldn't take him at nine. Yes, he has everything the Pistons need, he seems to work hard, he's tough but his skillset and upside don't make him near the 9th best prospect in this draft. He projects as possibly a rotation player if he continues to work hard and improve. There are much better prospects who will be available at nine than O'Quinn or Moultrie, for that matter.

He reminds me of Kendrick Perkins. I'd trade this 9th pick for young Perkins in an instant. I'm not in love with any of these prospects at 9, so would have no problem gambling on a big and taking them higher than projected - if thats the only chance you have to get him.

"Defensively, O’Quinn is a fantastic shot-blocker and won his league’s defensive player of the year award. Offensively, he’s a fantastic finisher and he has range on his jumper. Basically, he fits the exact bill of what the Pistons need. The downside is O’Quinn went from being a sleeper and potential steal in the second round to a guy who had a fantastic tournament run and has been great in pre-draft workouts, so the likelihood that he could surge into the late first round is growing."

I don't get this line of thinking. You say he sounds like exactly what the Pistons need, but then say too bad we likely won't have a chance to draft him because he could go late first. Hello? We do have a pick at 9, ya know.

Why is it "OK" if the Pistons took Moultrie at 9, but "reaching" if they took O'Quinn? What's the difference between O'Quinn and Moultrie?

To me, they are both the same. Same size, same stats, both from small schools, etc. But O'Quinn blocks 3 shots/gm and could be a defensive force. Sounds like a bunch of politics BS to me.
