Don't knock Calathes, that guy has some serious talent and ability. Just look at what he did at Florida in his 2 years there. He is a 6'6" true PG with quality penetration skills, good court vision, and an improving 3 point shot. The Mavs have been interested in luring him over for some time now. Chandler Parsons played second fiddle to Calathes at Lake Howell HS and at UF when the two played together, and look at how successful Parsons has been as a rookie this year. But I'll agree with Diebler, he would only sit pine in the NBA at best.

I never made the claim that it was a better training ground. Top leagues in Europe are a higher level of competition than the D-League but I do agree that in terms of development, especially with a guy the age of Singler, it would better serve him to play in NBA if that is his ultimate goal. However, if he only stays over in Europe this season, I feel that it will not hurt his development all that much due to the compacted NBA season this year.

If the Eurp style is so different, how can it be a better training ground for NBA prospects than even the d-league?

Okay, so Singler willingly joined the group of himself, Calathes and Diebler. Wow, that's pretty distinguished company.

Nick Calathes was drafted by the Mavs a couple years ago and he skipped playing there to take an offer to play with Panathinaikos in Greece. Also, Jon Diebler went to play for Panionios in Greece during the lockout and has since remained there, but Diebler would have most likely been demoted to play for his teams D-League affiliate. Calathes has improved over the last couple seasons and could definitely produce in the NBA if and when he decides to come over.

I watch alot of Euroball, so I am quite familiar with the environment over there. Singler first started the season with Alicante and he tore it up there, but they quite a weak team compared to the top 1/4 of the ACB league. He then moved to Real Madrid who offered him a nice contract and has since been a serviceable starter. Real Madrid is historically one of the best teams in Europe, but right now they are not even top 8. Though they are still capable of beating some of the worst teams in the NBA on a regular basis. Also, when Serge Ibaka played for the team during the lockout he was a bench player, so they do have some quality depth to their team.

Austin Daye played in Russia during the lockout with Khimki, which is a weaker team than Real Madrid, and he put up worse numbers then what Singler is currently doing with Real. The style play in Europe is also quite different than the NBA. Jerebko is a guy who has actually played better in the NBA than he did in Italy. Some people struggle adjusting to the style of play in Europe, which was seen by Deron Williams first games with Besiktas and Ty Lawson's very mediocre play during the whole lockout with Zalgiris Kaunas where he was eventually demoted to the second option at PG.

Also for the above commenter, Barcelona is Rubio's old team, is not only the best team in Spain but it is also one of the top 3 in Europe. He was very inconsistent with Barca and they were stacked at the PG position, so that is what hurt him there. And since his departure they have picked Marcelinho Huertas of Brasil who has been huge improvement at the position and in the past has led the ACB in assists.

Lets not forget Ricky Rubio's Euro's Trash team he played for. The last two years over there HE DIDN"T EVEN AVERAGE 7 PPG in with over 20 minutes a game. At least Singular won't get hurt in the first season like that 6 foot 4 boy did. Know your Euro trash before you hate on the trick shot specialist. We need some Euro trash we could bring off the bench anyway, and you don't think he could beat out Wilkins for the spot here?? psshhh. Bring Singular and V - MACK ready to play next season.

lol, safe to say you are one of those people who thought deron williams is going to average a triple-double in turkey, or rubio is "all hype".. lay off your stereotypes and we have a conversation..

one more thing, being a ncaa champ means nothing in the pros.. there are guys who win in the ncaa and are too bad to play in europe

singler is a role player, everywhere on this planet

You get real. He's playing against subpar Euro's that aren't good enough to play in the NBA. He was a borderline 1st round pick, 4 yr starter at Duke and National Champion. Yes, he should be dominating those Euro's.
