Matchups vary. Unless opposing coaches are deliberately putting good rebounding wings and PGs on the floor when Moose is playing, that would be exactly the same as statistical noise.

can you add this as another possibility?

it will depend on MAtchups... whenever he's got an opponent stronger/better than he is then i don't expect him to grab more Defensive Rebounds... i dont see much beef on Monroe.. he needs to add muscle (like DH) if he wants to become a REBOUND KING

another is.... he lacks motor.... we all know that...

[...] • Trend to watch: Why do the Pistons rebound better, on the defensive end, when Greg Monroe is on the bench? [...]

I'm thinking that because the other bigs, Prince and Jerebko are better defensive players, the team as a whole is more often in better position defensively when the shot goes up and are therefore in a better position as a team to rebound. Offensive rebounds are often due to players losing assignments or needing help and the team scrambling out of position to try and get a stop. On the other hand, good defense often leads to an easy rebound with the offensive players boxed out.

Hey Dan, where did you get these numbers?

"<em>The Pistons get 71.4 percent of defensive rebounds when he’s on the floor, 13th on the team. Last year those numbers were 71.8 and ninth.</em>"

I know you sourced the stats from NBA.com, but do you have a specific link?

He gets replaced by Ben Wallace! This year, almost all times Monroe isn't on the floor, Wallace is. Montoe's DRR according to Hollinger is 23.6. Ben Wallace's is 23.5. Do Monroe's positive impact is hidden because Wallace still DRR's just as well. So the issue becomes who is on the floor with them. Jerebko and maxiel have 17.9 and 17.8 DRR's, so the issue is probably not power forward.

Want a scary thought? Daye's DRR of 15.7 is 3.3 higher than Prince's 12.4. Maybe Monroe is playing too many minutes with Prince. You really can't do this analysis on a team-wide basis without looking at player combinations.
