[...] Our own Kirk was asked to provide some insight on the Buckeyes’ Buford for a Pistons’ site- “William Buford provides a perimeter threat with a variety of options in which to score. Buford’s mid-range game with the ability to curl around screens for jumpers is second to none in college basketball. That skill alone should allow him to stick around for 10 years in the NBA. He’s an excellent foul shooter, and he goes through stretches of being an excellent three-point shooter. There have been times this season where the 6’5? guard has taken the Buckeyes on his back and single-handedly carried them across the finish line with hot shooting. Buford’s battle at the next level, just as at this one, will be to remain consistent, avoiding the 2-for-13 shooting nights that have plagued him at times. However, if you’re talking about an early second round selection, there are few that have as much scoring ability from the wing as Buford does.” [Piston Powered] [...]

I did a double-take when I first glanced at the title of this post. I thought it said, "William Bedford."

There have been several times I found myself wishing the team had a spot up shooter, although Prince doing more of that has alleviated the concern. Still, going forward, it is something this team will need. It looks like there will be some big men available with the first pick that I'd rather have, and I'd rather get Machado since the need for a bench facilitator seems pretty obvious (which is why Russel was kept on the roster all year). If Buford is sitting there with the second pick in the 2nd round, well, I couldn't complain about taking him there.

As an aside, is it crazy to think Kyle O'Quinn of Norfolk State should be drafted in the second round? His stats are pretty good. 15.9 pts/gm, 57.3% from the field, 69.6% ft%, 10.3 r/gm, and 2.7 b/gm. Those numbers are actually down a bit from his junior year, so it isn't just a one year thing either. I know that it's against the MEAC, but that is still impressive. He's also listed at 6'10", 240 lbs. I don't know how accurate those measurements are, but he definitely looks big. Plus, he was the best player on the floor against Missouri. He outplayed Ricardo Ratliffe, who should be a lock to go somewhere in the early to mid 2nd round. I know he had that let down game against Florida, but it wasn't exactly a surprise. Norfolk St clearly left everything on the court against Missouri and they had nothing left when they went up against Florida. I can't help but think the guy looks like an NBA player, and I hope Detroit at least brings him in for workouts against some of the other bigs like they did with Macklin.
