@Patrick
Your right about Bison Dele being an interesting guy. I remember reading once how he he sailed his yacht the 'Hakuta Matada' from America to Australia. His dad was a singer with the Platters. He is one of those rare players that i think played basketball professionally because he was good at it not because he actually loved it. I think that guy had some inner demons that no one really understood.

The guaranteed dynamic is one I hadn't thought of. I guess that makes sense but I'm pretty sure the spot was his for the taking.

Joe Dumars is one of the most beloved Pistons. To me and many others. But he deserves to be kicked out of his position as GM. It's like Isaiah Thomas. Pistons' fans love him, but they don't want him as GM either.

Joe Dumars: Hey I've got a player who never plays, when he does he is terrible, and he is signed for a couple more years at a price above the MLE. Wanna give me a draft pick for him?

Isaiah Thomas: I'd love to, but I'm not a GM anymore.

David Kahn: You do realize even I'm not quite that stupid, right? Although, he is a combo forward, and I love those. Throw in three point guards and I might think about it.

Every other GM: Go bleep yourself.

I was mad as hell about Dele bailing until I actually read more about the guy. He was really interesting. He left a ridiculous amount of money on the table b/c he no longer had passion for the game. He wanted to pursue other things, and if you look in the SI Vault, he really did do some cool things in his years after retiring. Really interesting dude.

Singler just doin Singler. Totally OK with that.

I'll frame it this way: as a second round pick, his contract isn't guaranteed like first rounders. So, let's say Singler left Spain and came back, then had a bad camp or the Pistons decided he's no good or whatever and cut him (I don't think it was likely to happen, but it could happen as second rounders get cut fairly frequently around the league). In that scenario, would you argue that the Pistons betrayed Singler by getting him to come to camp without a guaranteed deal, getting him to pass on a lucrative deal in Spain, and then cutting him?

Players have such a short window to make good money playing pro ball, especially players like Singler who are only marginal prospects anyway. I don't fault Singler for trying to maximize his earnings potential one bit. If Spain makes him a better player and he joins the Pistons next year and contributes, it will work out well for the Pistons anyway.

If Joe D manages to get this guy off the books without an amnesty or taking on a contract with more years remaining, he should win executive of the year next season.
