Charlie Villanueva injures other ankle

David Mayo of MLive:

Villanueva suffered a left ankle sprain with no contact.  He said he was just running down the court when he turned the ankle, which is not the same one which cost him most of the season.

Of course he did.

Just saw Memo got waived by the Blazers, any chance the Pistons would try and pick him up?

Apparently, he’s out for the year.
But, yes, a healthy Okur would be an intriguing signing. And likely cheap, considering his back issues.

He’ll be 33 next season, having missed most of two seasons in a row. What type of player would he be?

The fact that Memo might not have a huge market here makes me think there’s at least a chance he’d pursue pro opportunities in Turkey. He and Hedo are such huge stars there and the Turkish league is one of the better ones in Europe I believe, so he might be able to get more money there than he would as a NBA free agent coming off two or three injury plagued years now.

He did tweet after being traded that he expected to be %100 next year and was excited to join his new team.

He’s so pathetic. It’s clear he’s scared to play for Frank and has accepted his amnesty fate. I’ve never heard of a professional who fakes injuries. I hope his contract gets voided.

Yea, he’s definitely faking injuries, even though doing so would cost him millions in future earnings.

I was looking forward to Charlie V when he first signed with the Pistons now he is so disappointing its pathetic. I hope we can get a big in the draft that can develop into a great piece next to Monroe. It will be interesting to see what the Pistons do this off season with Ben Gordon and Charlie V. I just hope it isn’t more of the same with these players.

In light of last night’s game and CV’s recent injury, CV jumped to a commanding lead in the amnesty race.

I think that he is faking… Come on mannnn really the other ankle is messed up now.. I think he came into this season knowing he was going to get min with JJ coming back.. Signing him was a total mistake and I think that the team should just leave him on the bench next year too.. Don’t amnesty him and let him get off scott free cause he will still be on the books.. For the whole time he was here he had no defense and not a good rebounder two things that the team needs badly.. I say trade him in the offseason for some draft picks this year.. Im just saying

Joe Dumars: Hey I’ve got a player who never plays, when he does he is terrible, and he is signed for a couple more years at a price above the MLE. Wanna give me a draft pick for him?

Isaiah Thomas: I’d love to, but I’m not a GM anymore.

David Kahn: You do realize even I’m not quite that stupid, right? Although, he is a combo forward, and I love those. Throw in three point guards and I might think about it.

Every other GM: Go bleep yourself.

Yeah sure amnesty him now and one day down the road we may actually need to amnesty someone who is worth it. Funny how everyone plays with another mans(Gores) money and knows how he should spend it. Im just saying, how does he get his own doctor to do that when the team has a training staff.? Do most of you read what you write? He is just faking. That is so juvenile I dont think it really warranted a response. Im mad just as the next guy he cant find his niche but to assume he faking is ridiculous. Find out where someone knows inside information concerning his injury, then we may have a discussion.

well, you can only amnesty players with contracts from the prior CBA.   thats a pretty limited set of players on the pistons at this point (basically him, BG or max).  Hes the obvious choice.  Frankly, even without the injuries I have no interest in seeing him suit up for this squad.

rick77, nobody else is playing with Gores’ money. He can either pay Charlie V. over the next 3 years, as no team is dumb enough to take on his contract via a trade, or he (Gores) can pay him in one lump some (Amenisty) and not have it count against the the team’s cap.

So, it’s likely we won´t see CV´s minutes anymore this season ? Well, can’t say I’m looking forward that so best option is amnesty him and part ways. It’s the better for both parts. But it makes me think twice about another injury without barely playing…maybe is he so unlucky? LOL

V is definitely in the running. Allen Iverson would probably be up there too. Allan Houston was pretty hated after he left. But right now, you’re right, I’d probably put V ahead of both on the most hated of all time list.

I felt a little weird after he died but I think I hated on Bison Dele the most when he was actually a Piston.  I’ll admit he was a much better player than Charlie V but while people complain about his contract, Dele had the richest contract in Pistons history at the time and he was about as uncommitted to the team as possible.
        Still, Charlie would be close.
BTW: It’s sad but Joe Dumars would probably fall pretty high on the list of hated Pistons around here when he should be a candidate for most beloved.

Also, if he counts, I’d say I hate Singler about as much as Charlie V right now.  I don’t think Charlie is faking his injuries but I do think Singler betrayed the Pistons and their drafting of him.  So, should I hate a player more because he sucks and is getting paid too much or should I hate the one who is hurting the team by his conscious decision making?   I do know I’d rather see Singler traded this off season than see Charlie amnestied unless it is to sign a good free agent.

Singler just doin Singler. Totally OK with that.

I’ll frame it this way: as a second round pick, his contract isn’t guaranteed like first rounders. So, let’s say Singler left Spain and came back, then had a bad camp or the Pistons decided he’s no good or whatever and cut him (I don’t think it was likely to happen, but it could happen as second rounders get cut fairly frequently around the league). In that scenario, would you argue that the Pistons betrayed Singler by getting him to come to camp without a guaranteed deal, getting him to pass on a lucrative deal in Spain, and then cutting him?

Players have such a short window to make good money playing pro ball, especially players like Singler who are only marginal prospects anyway. I don’t fault Singler for trying to maximize his earnings potential one bit. If Spain makes him a better player and he joins the Pistons next year and contributes, it will work out well for the Pistons anyway.

I was mad as hell about Dele bailing until I actually read more about the guy. He was really interesting. He left a ridiculous amount of money on the table b/c he no longer had passion for the game. He wanted to pursue other things, and if you look in the SI Vault, he really did do some cool things in his years after retiring. Really interesting dude.

The guaranteed dynamic is one I hadn’t thought of.  I guess that makes sense but I’m pretty sure the spot was his for the taking.

            @Patrick
Your right about Bison Dele being an interesting guy. I remember reading once how he he sailed his yacht the ‘Hakuta Matada’ from America to Australia. His dad was a singer with the Platters. He is one of those rare players that i think played basketball professionally because he was good at it not because he actually loved it. I think that guy had some inner demons that no one really understood.

Joe Dumars is one of the most beloved Pistons. To me and many others. But he deserves to be kicked out of his position as GM. It’s like Isaiah Thomas. Pistons’ fans love him, but they don’t want him as GM either.

We have no idea what the inner workings of the Pistons are.  It is possible that these injuries are completely faked, but he is being told to do this by Detroit.  I’m not really happy either way, but it wouldn’t be the first time that something like that has happened.  I can only see that being true of Joe D decided a long time ago to amnesty Charlie.  I don’t understand why this process would take so long, but I am not familiar with the effect of amnesty on the team’s finances.  Dan, Patrick any idea how amnestying Charlie would go down?  I mean if Joe didn’t decide to amnesty him until say mid-season, after trades obviously didn’t work, why not just amnesty him right now, or is there no reason to do that?

        1) They want to trade BG, but don’t want teams to think he’ll be amnestied if he isn’t shipped off somewhere? In other words, they may want teams to be convinced they’ll amnesty CV, so BG’s trade value would go up.

        2) He made a huge leap and is actually really good now, but him being out there would lose their ability to get a good draft pi—- bahahahah I can’t even say it with a straight face.. and you can’t even see me.
