"For the past few seasons GM Joe Dumars’ hands have been tied as the widow of former Pistons owner Bill Davidson tried to sell the team. Dumars should be able to be much more aggressive going forward."
how long is that lame excuse going to be trotted out?
gores bought the team 9 months ago.
since that point, dumars has essentially operated in the same fashion he'd operated in before the new ownership.
that tends to indicate that the "karen tied his hands" excuse was nothing but that...an empty excuse.
he's had lots of instances where this new aggressiveness could have manifested itself, and instead, it has been business as usual.
no aggressive moves at the draft.
not using the mid-level exception to bring in a new player.
bringing back old vets wallace, prince and stuckey.
signing his designated, stealer of PT from young players retread of the year, damien wilkins.
of course, he finally decided to try to bring in some blood from the d-league, after having one of the worst records in the league so far as using that resource is concerned. unfortunately, that blood wasn't young, as he brought up a 29 year old rookie, who is a very nice little player, but one who obviously won't be part of any long term rebuilding because of his age.
how long do fans have to wait for this new aggressiveness everyone has been anticipating and using as a tease to string along fans?
this trade deadline?
this summer?
the draft?
i'm more than willing to believe that dumars might take a new direction with the team, become more aggressive in his moves.
i will only believe it when i see it however.
so far, since the ownership change, at every juncture, he's simply done the same kinds of things he'd done previously.
consequently, i'd hoped that the "karen wouldn't let me..." excuse had been buried for good. i guess not.
