Willie Green interests Pistons, too

Matt Dery of 97.1 The Ticket:

A lot of Stuckey discussion, but sources say #Pistons also have some interest in Willie Green. He would be a great fit here IMO.

WTF is Joe doing wasting his time and money looking at PG’s and SF’s???

The only 2 positions we might actually be set at, with Knight, Stuckey, Tay, and Daye.

We don’t even have a starting big man yet to go next to Monroe, and he’s looking for 3rd string PG’s and SF’s?

Unless he’s thinking Green will be 3rd string and Joe can get him on the cheap… I don’t get this either. I suppose he let go White and waived Rip. That opens up a roster spot. But, MAN, this team is so thin on the front court.

I’m thinking this is a sign that Stuckey is being traded. In essence, instead of signing 1 player who can play both 1 and 2, they are instead going after 2 players, 1 PG and 1 SG/SF.

They can probably get both players for half the cost of 1 Stuckey. And as a SG, if thats what is being resigned as, Im not sure Reggie isnt the better player. Stuckey cant shoot!

Reggie is lights out from the perimeter. IF they dont sign Stuckey, I’m kinda liking this idea.

But thats only if they dont resign him. Otherwise it makes no sense. If they can trade Stuckey for a big and get these two Guards, I think we’ll be a better team overall

Good point. If nothing else, this is leverage against Stuckey. I’m not in the Stuckey fan club, so I’m all for this.

Stuckey doesn’t bring a ton to the table. He’s a jack-of-all trades, master of none. I can’t say I’ve seen a ton of Brandon Knight, but the word is that he’s a stronger shooter than Stuckey. The Pistons could use that.

It’s not like these players will cost much $. W/ the shortened season I think we need the max roster incase of injuries or so we don’t completely wear some people out.

of course…just what detroit needs…another combo guard, or swing man.  along with damian wilkins and maybe reggie williams…
and in the meantime, the front court is being strengthened, how?…..
is willie green going to grow 8 inches and put on 80 pounds?
pure insanity by dumars, but exactly what he’s been doing the last 3 years or so.

I think it’s safe to assume that Jerebko will be our starting PF, no? With his supposed weight gain I figured this was the plan over the summer. Max, Monroe, Charlie, Tay,and another nameless tall big body signed (voskuhl?) will split the remaining time depending on matchups. We’ve got bodies, their just not particularly appealing.

Who should we bid on, who we have a legitimate chance to get? Looks like Jordan, Gasol, and Nene will all stay with their current teams. I’d say we could go with Dalembert, he’d be a good fit. But he doesn’t make us considerably better. It looks like Mareese Speights is on the market, he’s young, has flashed potential, and could be had for cheap. I’ve always like Jason Thompson on the kings squad, but they seem happy to hold onto him. It’s looking more and more like we’ll get our big man in next years draft, not in free agency.

Not to mention, while we are thin on the front line. I don’t think we are so thin where we can’t compete for the 5-8 seed in the east. Which I don’t think anyones realistically thinking we’re any better than that anyway. 6’10 Jerebko, 6’11 Monroe are above average. Charlie and Big Ben are serviceable. Max had a poor year last year but he’s proven useful before. Is that any worse than other teams? Between new ownership, lack of cap room, new coaches, and young players, I bet the front office waits till at least the trade deadline to see what improvements stick. Our best pickup will probably be Lawrence Frank, who I predict changes the culture of the franchise and thus the outlook on our own players.

According to A. Woj on Yahoo, Mavs are trying to move Corey Brewer and Rudy Fernandez. Both make around $3 mil/year, both are younger players. I know we have a glut of wing players but these are the type of unproven, shorter contract (both done after 2012/2013 season) type guys that I wouldn’t mind trying either of those two out for a couple years and seeing if they can make something out of themselves. But why make moves for them when you can re-sign Tayshaun?

Rudy has developed quite a reputation as a major downer when things aren’t going his way. Really looks like he tried the NBA,doesn’t like it and wants to go back to Spain.
Dallas traded away their 2011 First to get Fernandez and w/out him ever playing for them they want to unload him pretty much says it all.

Wow now all of sudden Stuckey is suckey. Wonder how many of you are 6’5 and can hoop and if so why are you not on the Pistons? Be careful what you wish for when you demand that Stuckey disappear. The guy has had like three coaches going on his fourth and was annoited before he did anything and now all the troubles are now his. Get a clue the man to me is more valuable defensivley than offensively and with the right coach, system, team, and other variables can be a all star guard. How many 6’5 point guards are their in the league? When he switches to teh two now we have a change of pace with Knight and him. To bring on garbage players to appease your satisfying is funny because in he middle of the year everyone will be saying ” Why did Joe get this guy”? The man has not had any solid coaching whatsoever. To let him walk for peanuts will hurt and will take more time than most think to recover because of all teh otehr ramifications. The most important one being is ” Detroit Loyal To their players” Guys in the league talk and if your better players leave then it has to be a reason.

Do you really expect us to read all of that? Ha

Stuckey is a PG that doesn’t pass or a SG that can’t shoot. Sign and trade or let him leave.

Obviously you did or no comment would have been attached afterward. You give me a comprehensive list of guards out there we could replace Stuckey with. Its the systems not the player.  who was he going to pass to on our rag tag group of players?  What type of offense did we even run before we start passing around blame? When you can tell me the game plan then I will attack the issue of whether Stuckey is good or not. Bet if Joe would have done that deal with Boston a few years back you’d be mad as hell because he would be playing with someplayers who would actually be putting teh ball in the hoop. this team looks like the one George Irvine coached in to a whopping 32-50. Go ahead and tell yourself theteam is better but in reality we just eexperienced one of the best decades in sports for the Detroit Pistons. Be happy you were around to witness it and stop acting like Cleveland fans who really have a reason to gripe. No Titles!

The reasons we’ve been given for Tays resigning are veteran leadership and a “glue guy” skillset. Brewer and Fernandez are considered young guys with potential. Brewer on Defense and Fernandez as an all around player. Brewer couldn’t stick on a crappy Twolves team and Fernandez was inconsistent and has threatened to sign in spain…where he is good. I still might take a shot at Rudy, but at least you know what you’ll get in Tayshaun.

rudy fernandez is one of the biggest crybabies in the league. he is the type of euro who gives euros a bad name. he had a shot to really make a mark here in portland, a chance he had been crying about getting, and two years in a row, when they really needed the guy to step up and perform, he basically choked in the stretch of the season and the playoffs. it was stunning to see him choke so clearly right when he had his shot each year. and it didn’t just happen once, it happened two years straight.
very talented guy, though he could stand to gain about 15 pounds, but a head case who chokes under pressure.

You seem to get where I am going with this one. Hey I know Jerrmaine Jackson shoudl I give him a call and ask him if Bacari or Rashad Philips want to play as well. The Pistons need to keep stuckey and get a nice young bruiser to go next to Monroe. Get a coach who preaches defense and then let the chips fall where they may.

when stuckey learns to not jump in the air whilst being double teamed in the paint looking for the pass, but to draw the foul, he will be a fringe all-star. he’s a couple somethings away from averaging a 20-5-3-1 season. i have faith in him as a starting shooting guard, but not particularily as a point guard. he’s probably our best guard and point guard, at the moment.

You know what was awesome about the Goin’ to Work Pistons? We knew what they were about: blue-collar, wear ‘em down defense, and methodical offense predicated on teamwork.

This group? There is no identity and Dumars seems to have lost his way with being able to define what the squad should be about. If we’re looking to build a gritty team of undervalued cast-offs like last decade, CV and BG made no sense from day 1. If we’re trying to build a run-and-gun style offense, why bother with re-signing a slow-paced, aging player whose historic claim was shut-down defense in Tayshaun Prince? We’re all over the board here and that’s why nobody’s quite gelling. If there is a wisdom to this madness, I wish Joe D would spell it out so at least we have an idea of what his vision is and, therefore, can make more sense of talk around guys like Willie Green and Reggie Williams.

It would, at the very least, help guide my fake trades on the ESPN Trade Machine!

I think everyone on the team makes more money than Stuckey besides the rookies.  And YOUR TALKING ABOUT WILLIE GREEN!!!!  No wonder Stuckey averages 15 – 5 – 3.  I would too, maybe even less.  Lets trade some of our role players to get a big, other wise quit this jibberish.

Why even get anyone? I would be quite satisfied with filling the roster up with some motivated D-leaguers (ala Golden State or Cleveland last year) and then suck that year. We really, really, really need another good (star-potential) player in the next draft. Besides that giving the players who stay (Knight, Monroe, Jerebko, surprising D-leaguer #1) all the time they need and maintain cap flexibility.
I´m pretty sold on the “we are going to suck” part for next year, but I fear for the playing time of the players with potential and I fear for our flexibility. Plus if we keep players in win now mode (Tay for sure, maybe Gordon and Charlie V) we just keep the potential distractors, we are nowhere near winning now!
