And how is Frank so much better than Curry and Kuester? Please reserve judgment on him (positive or negative) for at least half a season.

@Deeetroiter: I've been saying the same thing about BG. He'll likely rebound afert he chaos of Q's coaching tenure. Frank will have his role clearly defined, and it should be to shoot and score. Whether Rip is gone or not BG should bounce back big.

You can't just compare a guy to the best player drafted over him. Comparehim to the average player drafted around there. And then it's possible that Daye was a bit below average. But not a horrible pick. Otherwise how many teams are terrible drafters for taking whoever ahead of Manu Ginobili?

"The fact that missing on a second round pick isn’t “a big deal” doesn’t mean teams at the bottom of the league should be tossing them away left and right."

Dumars has a decent success rate on late first and second round picks. It's one of the things he's done an OK job of. Now, the team has another big flaw -- that talent hasn't been developed here in most cases. But Dumars has found Prince, Okur, Amir Johnson, Afflalo, Jerebko, Delfino and even Maxiell with the 20th pick or later. All of those guys are or were at one time rotation players in the NBA. Something is missing in the player evaluation to player development step, and Dumars as well as the coaching staffs over the years are to blame for that. But I'm not fretting much that they took a chance on a player with lottery pick athleticism in White. He didn't pan out. It would be nice if he did, but it's not a big loss. Chances are, anyone selected at that pick would not pan out because so few second rounders ever develop into anything useful.

When rip is gone, BG will only have one year left.
For the next two years, we have to SGs we're paying $24M to.
Whether BG is ok after that is not really the problem. And I'm saying this as a guy that wants to enjoy BGs time here. I want him to light it up. Nonetheless, even if he does start putting the ball in the basket, he brings a lot of other deficiencies to the court. He is ideally a bench scorer, but he's making $12M a season.

even more to the point DVS is making. The Ben Gordon signing has not helped a thing yet and likely will continue to weigh us down over the next three years.

They're called project big men for a reason Patrick. Saying we didn't miss out on anything special because a project didn't accomplish anything last year is silly.
Fact of the matter is Terrico is most likely done because we have a roster stuffed full of guards (under-performing ones to boot). Whether or not Caracter, Varnado, Jordan, or Pittman turn out to be any good is yet to be determined. Any of them would likely still be on the roster though, getting a chance to learn from someone like Ben before he rides off into the sunset. We could still be taking the time to evaluate them and see what our coaches can do to develop them.
The fact that missing on a second round pick isn't "a big deal" doesn't mean teams at the bottom of the league should be tossing them away left and right.

Man, am I the only guy that thinks BG will be just fine when Rip is gone and we have Frank coaching? This guy is an assassin and will score a ton of points for us when he finally gets to play solid minutes without Rip around. I think he is a serious weapon that will take over a ton of games this year if Rip is gone.

One thing that I think needs to be pointed out on this thread:

We, as fans, don't know anything about Terrico White because we barely saw him last year and didn't see him at all after summer league and the first preseason game.

That doesn't mean the Pistons didn't see him though. Remember, he had an injury that was supposed to keep him out a few months. That injury ended up keeping him out the entire season. I mean, it's highly possible the team could make some evaluations behind the scenes based on what he did or didn't do after the injury to get himself back on the court.

And honestly, it's not like this guy was a natural point guard. He was very athletic, which made him intriguing if he could learn the position, but skillset-wise, he was closer to being a 6-foot-1 power forward than being able to run a NBA offense.

Whatever the case, White stood little chance of playing this year.
