Then play him at shooting guard. This thread starts off with someone saying Stuckey was a bust from the start when in truth he was an unexpected revelation once he got minutes and greatly excited the fan base. As others have said, he improved every year thereafter. Even if you think he just doesn't fit anymore because Knight has more potential and you don't like Stuck at the 2, it's no reason to insult his accomplishments. I know many are rolling their eyes at such a word, but there are a whole lot of players who never make the league and a whole lot of players who do, who would beam with pride if they could say they had Stuckey's last few years in the NBA.
You can't watch these first few games with a microscope and determine how well someone is running the team, if for no other reason than that Frank didn't teach offense during the preseason. Yes, they look horrible so far, and yes, other teams have the same excuse, but this team will improve incrementally and a big part of it will come when the players have a reasonable sense of what plays they are running and this is true on both ends. Other teams will improve in these regards as well, but as the Pistons have one of the youngest rosters, there is simply more that must be learned which means they have plenty of room for internal improvement.

Last season, if Stuckey hit 50% of his 2 point attempts, he would have scored 73 more points on the season. That's how close he was to 50% shooting on all 2 point attempts (I will assume he was slightly higher on layups--probably actually over 50%). But assuming he got those extra 73 points, he would have averaged 16.5 instead of the 15.5 he did.

And greasy hands?!?! He averaged 2.0 TO/game as a starting PG playing over 30 minutes per game. That is not incredible but certainly considerably better than average.

Stuckey is not all Dumars made him out to be. But why do you talk like he is a terrible baller?

The thing is that Billups was never a superstar either. So people hyped Stuckey as the next Billups, he has been slowly improving and may eventually get there (although he will never be as good at certain things--they are very different players). But last season, Stuckey shot 44%. For a PG, that is fantastic and nowhere close to a chucker. Also, he would be a bust for a top 3 pick. But for a 15th pick, he is well above average. Maybe not quite worth his contract, but stop hating just because some people have absurd expectations.

Max, speaking strictly from a basketball perspective (not hating on him personally, or looking at stats alone): He doesnt run an offense well. That would be okay last year, but since we have Knight - who has more of a natural ability to see the floor, shoot the ball, and make layups - we'd prefer to have Knight run pg.Stuckey clogs the offense up, so even if he scores 15 points, it can actually be a detriment to the team (if he's the pg). Basketball just works better when theres better passing.

It is but the way he acted last year is unacceptable. Refusal to enter a basketball game that YOU are PAID TO PLAY regardless of whether or not you approve of him is unacceptable.

i agree to a certain extent.
Stuckey was arguably our best player over the last few years, but others mainly prince could have something to say about that....
anyways, it is true that detroit fans hate on stuckey far too much. they seem to forget he was a mid lottery pick that has improved each year despite having the franchise fall around him. the coaching situation in detroit has been a mess for years which doesn't help either.
Also, why is asking for more money in a contract negotiation a bad thing?? whether he's worth it or not is besides the point. When you negotiate, you look to get the best deal - its a basic thing.
Whether he's hyped or not shouldn't get in the way of the facts.

Do you not remember what idiocy occurred last year that tainted the franchise name? Perhaps Stuckey's refusal to enter a few games when he was called upon by his coach? or even what he posted on twitter about Detroit?

Stuckey is the best player on the team by a mile. He's a 25 year old two-way player (rare enough) who is complete enough to lead the team in any category on a given night and is easily the Piston's most likely player to post a triple double--though I doubt he will and none of the other players have a chance. Nevertheless, going through losing has softened a lot of your minds and driven you nuts.
It is highly unfortunate that his fan base is using him like a Kwame Brown #1 pick level scapegoat when they should be lauding the great value the Pistons acquired by drafting him with a 15th pick, I don't recall Dumars, Stuckey or anyone else saying he was good enough to build a winning team around to compete for a title, but he seems to be being held to that very high standard by the fans.
As a New Yorker, I have been very critical throughout my life of horrible treatment that players, coaches and general managers receive from New Yorkers. They didn't even appreciate Patrick Ewing so I feel like they don't deserve players like Patrick Ewing. Well, after spending some time on these boards lately, I'm starting to feel like Pistons fans don't even deserve a player as good as Rodney Stuckey.
I thought you guys were different, but I now realize you were just fat and spoiled and that you have no patience or understanding that it is incredibly rare to not go through a down period between eras of winning. Two years ago, the Pistons had their best decade of sustained winning ever, and people were handing Dumars GM of the decade awards and if you think 2 years of missing the playoffs and a couple of bad to iffy contracts is grounds for hating on Dumars, who created that winning decade, and Stuckey, who has simply been the best player on a bad team that wasn't built to succeed anyway, than you must not have a very good hold on reality.
