The culture is definitely different now - no doubt about that. But my point is that people tend to respect a winning team that does so through smart draft picks, shrewd trades, etc., takes their lumps for a few years and grows into a winner. Miami simply loaded up in one offseason and had they won it all (I'm thankful they didn't) in their 1st year together, they would not have been respected as much because of the manner in which they did it. There's no denying that they had a huge target on their backs and went from a team most people were indifferent about to a team most people hated. Meanwhile the way the Mavs won the championship was highly respected because they built the team for years and Dirk stayed loyal to the franchise when he could have bolted. The Pistons of the 80s built themselves into a champion which garners a lot of respect.

hey jake, i think that comparing the formation of the bad boys to what took place last summer in miami is not a strong comparison because this happened in 1981. the heat players came together 30 years later in a culture that is light on patience. everything in the world, including the formation of nba rosters, is moving at a faster pace these days.

And now for a more relevant comment - I like how this team took shape. It was a natural progression of draft picks, trades, good personnel decisions. It was a process and I think people respect that. It was the complete antithesis of how Miami put their team together - which is why they were so hated. Thanks for a look at how the Bad Boys started to take form.

Austin Daye averaged 11 points and 4 rebounds last week for his Russian team while Kyle Singler averaged 17 points and 4 rebounds for his Spanish team. Unfortunately neither minutes played nor shots attempted were posted on the site i found these stats.
