I completely agree with your comment using stats as a checks and balances. But I do think thats all stats will ever be. I think people may think Dallas is a great example that using stats works.  But then you have to consider there high salary level, Dirk Nowitzi and clutch play, the fact miami can't hit jumpers.  To me you don't need stats for that.
