I do like the way you have framed this situation plus it does indeed offer me some fodder for consideration. All the same, thank you for this excellent piece.

This book never says the Marbury didn't work hard in HS, but it does allude to the fact that everything came so naturally to him (and he eventually found success at every level of basketball) that maybe he never had to work hard. If you've made it so far without having to push yourself to the limits, it's probably pretty difficult to start in mid-career. However, the circumstances from which he came make it amazing that he even made it and had success in the NBA at all.

He simply stopped working hard once he made the pros. I think this happens with a lot of NBA players and it is quite sad to see. It is no surprise to see these players start working hard again once it is there contract year. I won't name any names because i would be here all day.

Thanks for doing this, Jacob.
I loved Marbury when he was at Georgia Tech. He was so polished at that age, it's easy to see why he was a HS star. Unfortunately, that's about as polished as he'd ever get as a pro.
