Ha! Yeah and he took more 3s himself than every other team. His team stunk and Frank Deford called it a season of "three and sympathy." There are so many crazy stories about basketball prodigies that few have heard of today - Rick Mount and Johnny Neumann for example- who totally flamed out in the ABA. The funny thing is that that was almost the norm in the ABA - it was a league of flame outs - much like the league itself. When reading it I found myself rooting for the league, it's figures, and wishing it had succeeded.

Les Salvage was another great story -- the dude who was terrible, but loved to shoot 3-pointers. One of the people in the book described him as a guy who "acted like if he stepped over it (the 3-point line), he was going to get killed or something."

That's exactly the type of player I've been in every rec league I've ever played in.

Loose Balls is an unbelievably entertaining book. So many great stories. From the hilarious to the pitiful sometimes you don't know whether to laugh or cry. This is an insightful history that's a must-read for all NBA fans. I think that today's NBA more resembles the ABA than the NBA of that time (at least on the court).

My favorite stories are the ones involving Marvin "Bad News" Barnes - who briefly played for the Pistons later in his career. What a character! There were so many characters in the ABA. Read this book if you haven't - you'll be educated and entertained by an important aspect of basketball history.
