I think that was his point. That Jordan is unrealistic. We can quite possibly get Kaman if we want. Not liking our chances at getting anything else for Prince besides a pick in the 20s.

That’s fair, and I see where you’re coming from. I think, given the impending CBA update, that the best thing Tay could do for us is expire– or bring young, cheap, role-playing talent in return. I’m not talking starters, I’m talking 3rd big-or-guard type talent that can plug holes. Anything over a few million might be too much for us to swallow. As for Kaman, I’m hoping Platinum Equity likes to run statistics, because if they do, Joe will face an uphill battle on this sale.

Have you watched Haywood this season? He's brutal man. And overpaid. The Mavs would certainly do that trade, since they surely have buyer's remorse on Haywood. I hate Kaman, and I would much rather have Kaman than Haywood.

It's not that I don't think Prince has value, he does. I just think that many of the teams that would want him would either sign him outright or, as contenders, wouldn't have useful players they'd want to part with in order to add him. They'd surely have bad contracts (like Haywood) that they'd love to flip for Prince, but those scenarios don't make much sense for Detroit. Not that Kaman makes a huge amount of sense either, but he's a short term contract and he's a player the Pistons have inquired about in the past, so I would guess there would be mutual interest in that type of deal.

you don’t think any other team would trade a player the pistons would want for prince? i don’t get that. you must think he doesn’t have much value.

the way i see it: 30 GMs would want prince on their team, and very few teams could afford to extend him anything more than the MLE (if it even exists next season), so anyone who wants him would have no choice but to send something back our way. what am i missing here?

here’s a possibility i just thought of: would you S&T prince for brendan haywood? hear me out. even if you don’t like his contract and/or think he’s not going to be in his prime for the length of his contract, he’s still a legit starting center, and if this is going to be a taxpaying team, what’s the difference how bad his contract is? the only reason it would ever be a problem is if we aimed to get under the cap, and for several reasons (most notably that free agents won’t want to come here for a while) i don’t think this team should bother working to clear cap space. assuming gores doesn’t mind paying the tax, i think we could do worse than adding haywood to anchor the middle.

Ugh no Kaman please, I thought we wanted an upgrade… Don’t sign Prince, and spend the money on DeAndre Jordan, he’s a far better player and would fit in well with Detroit as well as with Monroe down low, he’s much more aggresive, physical and explosive than Kaman. I do like the Millsap idea though…

I don’t think Kaman is very good. But I think it’s pretty clear Dumars would rather S and T Prince for a player, since he turned down a first rounder for him at the deadline. I don’t think any other team would trade a player the Pistons would want for Prince. I think that’s the only feasible trade for Prince out there if Prince wants to do a S and T and the Pistons want a player in return.

Please, lord, no Chris Kaman. If it’s a financial move (which it really wouldn’t be since Tay is a free agents), I guess it’s okay, but on the court, Kaman is abysmal. He’s the Ben Gordon of centers. He’s a post big who makes stretch fours look efficient, a ball handler without handles. His terrible scoring efficiency and ridiculous turnover rate makes him more than a net negative on court. I’m hoping that Gores will push Dumars to try and justify such a move, because any advanced statistical measurement will show giant red flags with Kaman– especially at full health.

Millsap is at best a 3rd big man on a contender. Kaman was an All-Star Center 2 yrs ago and is still only 30 and on a short term contract.

It would be a no-risk, high-reward deal. Get something for Tay, try it out for a year, if he works, re-sign him to our own terms, if not, no big deal.

Andbecause Tay is going anyway, we dont have to really give up anything to try out Kaman.
