should get D'Antoni when NY fires him. nobody plays defense in the D anyway, so it would be a match made in heaven. jk

Sloan or Adelman would be nice. Trade Ben Gordon, Austin Daye and the #8 pick to minnesota for their #2 pick, martell webster, wesley johnson and nikola pekovic. Draft Irving or Derrick Williams(whoever is available) and address other needs in free agency. Resign Jerebko and give t-mac the role player role. What a future that would be

Just to clarify, I meant add Adelman to Jackson and Sloan on the list of "old guys who shouldn't coach anymore" - not to a list of former great coaches...

This is a list of coaches that some guy at Sports Illustrated made up based on speculation on ESPN.com - Woodson is "expected to receive consideration for the likely vacancy" and "Two other possible candidates" are Jackson and Malone, etc. The SI guy has no clue who the Pistons are considering for the next coach- he just randomly put together a list of names that have been mentioned as possibilities in other coaching searches.
I'm all for debating on who we think the next coach should be, but we should wait to see who the actual candidates are before criticizing Dumars and Gores for a list of names that was invented without any research or sources and then re-posted as "news"...
BTW - love @PantsPooper's comment on Jackson and Sloan - and I would add Adelman to that list...

I'm snickering at this line: "If we had been spending what the Lakers and Celtics have over the years, we probably could have 7-8 championships by now."

Hahahahahaha! Face it man, Detroit is not the first choice for any free agent. It's something we have to compete with. It may be ahead of Toronto and Cleveland, but free agents will never select Detroit over LA, Miami, Boston, New York, etc. Your motto seems to play to the Atlanta style of maxing out Joe Johnson. I'd rather not.

As far as coaches... Woodson would be fine with me. I've said it before though, we need players more than coaches. Think a few years ago that Spoelstra, Carlisle, Scott Brooks were 'must haves' for all of these teams? No. They had good players and coaches who could handle them. We all have been exposed to a particularly bad player manager in Kuester and have been brainwashed to think that coaching matters that much. I won't argue that coaching is a moot point, but I will argue that no coach could make our players a contender.

If we're contacting Phil Jackson and Jerry Sloan about coaching our team, we should also call up Dean Smith and John Wooden.

Who do you suggest they pay? Sloan isn't coming back for just any team. You make it sound like the Pistons is a great job. It isn't. You mentioned success. It has to be recent success for a good coach to come. Th last two year's records and the all the drama makes the Pistons a job that not a lot of great coaches would want. I know Piston's fans are proud but cmon, Detroit may be well populated (they are not top ten they are about 18 or 19 in the top 50 populated cities) but the team is a wreck. I understand your view on paying for a good coach but let me ask this. Who else is available? It is not all about money. Phil Jackson and Jerry Sloan would rather retire then coach this team. You need to face reality and realize that great coaches won't coach this team for lots of money. Another thing is Joe isn't as cheap as you think. People just think he has all this money to play with to sign superstars. He set up structured contracts for guys, vets he thought would play well that became problems and under performed (T-Mac, Rip, Stuckey). The man brought a championship to Detroit in 2004 and 6 eastern conference championships and he doesn't even play he is just the GM! No team can stay on top forever. It will start with Joe and Gores getting a blue print and getting good young talent along with one of the best AVAILABLE and WILLING coaches.

Also remember, the difference between Woodson and Kuester is that Woodson has proven he can win as head coach. He was also on our 2004 title team like Kuester was.
