Rick, the Knicks are still going to make a play for Dwight Howard, Chris Paul or another big name free agent after next season. I would bet they hold onto Billups and don't take on any long-term salary.

After next season, they only players they have salary committed to are Melo, Amar'e and Balkman. Balkman is only like $1.7 million. I would assume they'd re-sign Landry Fields as well, but they might be a force in free agency again a year from now.

Dont rule out Chauncey as a Piston just yet. Knicks need young quality role players more than a 35 yr old PG. And we need cap space more than 2 role players like BG/CV.
To me, this increases the chance of landing Billups, because now Joe has another potential EXP contract to pursue in his quest to dump contracts.

A top-15 point guard on an expiring deal...smells like a trade chip for Chris Paul (if the Hornets make him available).
