A little late, but the series was great.
Too bad it's over as I have a hypothetical for you.
If the new CBA has a vastly more restrictive Cap(either hard one,or incredibly heavy Lux Tax penalties, whatever),there would almost have to be a provision for teams to get out of one contract-aka the Allan Houston Provision Take 2. For arguments sake, let's say the NBA agrees to buy-off 1 Player's contract on each team-pay his contract fully and his salary doesn't count towards Cap at all.(League pays for buy-outs perhaps w/a short term tax on Local media deals.)
In such a scenario,who would the Pistons nominate for a buy-out? Hamilton,Gordon,Villanueva?

Just wanted to thank all of the panelists for doing this (and Dan Feldman for organizing it). A lot of great stuff all week from some of the best and most accessible writers on the local scene.

Jamie--
I'm amazed that Prince is still getting the "always plays hard/glue guy" rep that he's carried for years. As far as I'm concerned, he's been an absolute cancer. Rip and Kuester (and equally so Dumars) handled the Rip situation less-than-perfectly. But though I'll be happy to see that player gone (contract runs out in eight or ten more years, doesn't it...), I do recognize that going from franchise cornerstone to benched for a totally crappy AI to being made inactive for a month is a really, really difficult situation. He could have pulled an Iverson and refused to play again and then publicly blamed others for their unwillingness to base a team around a sub-standard (by that point) shooting guard.
Tay, on the other hand, has been treated with all respect and deference. Yelling at Kuester? Fine. "Buffoonery". I didn't get upset. But coming back after the All-Star break saying that playing .600 ball against a very week schedule for the rest of the year? He gave up. Fuck him. It would have been silly and dishonest of him to say that the Pistons' goal was the championship or even that they were on track to make the playoffs. But "virtually impossible" to play decent basketball for two months. (And then to cost them the first game after that statement by scoring something like a point and grabbing a single rebound in thirty minutes? I fully forgive myself and anyone for sensing that he didn't really care and didn't really try.)
Tay's contract isn't hurting the team and he's aged better than Rip. But I will not tolerate (like I have a choice...) any talk of his professionalism. He's the one Piston that I would boo.
