As I pointed out in an earlier post, the Detroit News is still staunchly backing its story that there is no deal yet with Tom Gores despite reports from the Free Press, Crain’s Detroit and ESPN that say it’s done.
And just because who gets things like this right often gets lost in the shuffle, I found it funny the lengths the News is going to do show they, in fact, haven’t jumped the gun yet. Check the parenthetical note thrown into Ben Wallace’s quote:
“You guys (certain media outlets, but not The Detroit News) say it’s a done deal, I’ve heard that before,” Wallace said at Friday morning’s shootaround. “Mrs. D, she’s been honest with us, she loves us, she’s watched us grow up. She’s been honest about it, that she’s not as passionate about this as her husband was. We can respect that.”
That’s priceless. As I’ve said, the News has been the leader on this whole thing, so I think they have an interest in getting this final piece right too so they can say they owned this story from start to finish.
