Three things to watch
1. Going for three straight wins
The Pistons will try to leave the Pacers, Timberwolves, Nets and Kings behind as the only teams with a high of a two-game win streak this season. But even if the Pistons lose, at least they aren’t the Wizards, who haven’t won back-to-back games all season.
2. Tayshaun Prince’s play
The Mavericks might have interest in Tayshaun Prince, and although they certainly won’t decide his value on today’s game alone, it probably has more relevancy than it should. It’s almost impossible to ignore seeing an extreme performance – whether it be favorable or unfavorable – in person.
3. Martin Luther King Day
These matinee games have become a nice tradition for the Pistons, and I think the unique nature of the start time is relevant. For a lot of people in this country, today is just another day. They’ll get up, go to work, then come home, just as they usually do. But if the Pistons’ unusual afternoon tipoff triggers some people to think about the meaning behind today, I’d say that’s a good thing.
Pregame reading
- Richard Hamilton visited the Martin Luther King Memorial when the Pistons played in Memphis, writes Perry A. Farrell of the Detroit Free Press.
- Ryan Pravato, formerly of Life on Dumars, wrote a pretty awesome poem on Richard Hamilton for Stacheketball.
- Greg Monroe is showing that ability to hit cutters we heard so much about before the draft, as Jakob Eich of Bynumite Blog shows with video frames.

just a little note for your comment on the wiz: no sense comparing us to other sh*tty teams that are actually young and rebuilding. until i see some light at the end of this tunnel, i envy basically everyone.

Laser, ah, yes, those rebuilding Wizards, who start Kirk Hinrich every game.

sigh. come on, guys. be right.
on a game-related note: amazing what can happen when you have a manageable rotation that includes only 4 guards in the rotation (including– *GASP*– point guards!). and stuckey makes better decisions when he’s the second player to touch the ball in a possession. there’s a chance he actually has good playmaking instincts as long as he’s not burdened with running the offense. it’s very easy to root for these pistons.
