Great post, I especially like the analysis on defense. I think it's ironic that three guys who naturally play the same position led the team in scoring.

The best Pistons win in a long time. Q has them playing small ball with guys like Prince, Villanueva, and Daye logging time at the 4. They're not always pretty but they're putting forth effor to play D and rebound. Interesting note, the true bigs (Monroe, Wilcox, Wallace, Maxiel) combined to score 11 points. How often does an NBA team win a game scoring 11 points in the frontcourt?

They're playing at or above .500 in their last 10 games. If this continues, it will likely be enough to snag a playoff spot.

@Steve:
Daye has averaged a little over 20 minutes a game in January. That's a pretty reasonable amount of time for him. I'd love to see him play more, but with Prince also playing well, it's not like there's a natural person in the rotation to remove right now in order to get Daye more than 20 minutes per night.
He'll certainly be the starting small forward next season.

Agreed. Just an awesome post. Nice work.
It was great to see Daye step up in the clutch. I mentioned to my wife after he nailed that 3, "What a weapon to have." And it made me think how often Daye just collects dust on the bench. I know Kuester has tried to find ways to use him, but I firmly believe that other coaches would be better at maximizing his offensive talents.
Or is Daye a western conference player stuck on an eastern conference team?

Hey, PP,
@Dan -
Beautiful symmetry! And what makes the symmetry so beautiful is the content. This is probably the best post I've read here at PP.
Keep up the great work!

@Dan:
Great analysis on the defensive strategy.
And as for Wilcox, he's having a good season because one thing he does very well is move without the ball. He runs the floor and he's often cutting to the basket. That's one of the advantages of playing him with Monroe and McGrady, two guys who see the floor well and always look to pass.
When's the last time Wilcox actually played with a really good passer? Brent Barry in Seattle maybe?

would like to point out that Austin Daye got 7 rebounds in 34 minutes and only gave up one offensive rebound that i remember. that last foul was pretty brainless though.

The perfect game summary. And I agree that any team that plays hard and together will be supported in the D.
