Another point, we don’t want other potential free agents thinking we treat our players (read: our established, former-champion players) poorly. I’m sure people on the outside view this as disrespectful to Hamilton.

as inefficient as rip has been offensively, his defense both on and off the ball, has been far superior to that of ben gordon. i believe that if anyone should get a dnp-cd, then it should be bg. if any piston with a ridiculous contract should be involved in trade discussion, then it should be bg. does anyone else notice that he doesn’t play defense??

I think “owed” overstates it a little bit. It certainly would have been the courteous, respectful thing to do. However, I don’t think any player is entitled to playing time, regardless of his history with the team or not. Rip’s playing poorly, and he’s been playing poorly for a season and a half. Rip must know this.

If I were Kuester, I’d certainly have talked to Rip ahead of time. But, I also don’t think players need to be coddled like babies. They’re highly paid professionals, and sometimes things don’t go their way. Them’s the breaks.
